The new Mustang is equipped with touchscreen controls.

I paid £54k for a brand new Mach 1 last year, lousy legroom in the back, and climbing in and out isn’t the easiest.
Yes I’ve already been to a dealership and we all fit in fine in the back of a Mach 1 which is why I’m considering the new Dark Horse.
The Mustang makes a lot of sense then, it must be pretty high on your list if you've been to the dealer already.

I'm on my 3rd Mustang in 3 years, the interior is a nice place to be, the heated/cooled seats are better than the Recaro's IMO... It's nice to be appreciated when out in it, which you might not get in some of the options on your list, it sounds great, and although it handles speed well for it's size, i love the way it's great at going slow.

As I said though, it's the new touchscreen that might put me off...

Why not get the 911 with a view that after a few years you’ll swop out of it into something bigger, maybe the new QF once it’s here.

One thing I think car reviews is lacking is a decent impression of rear space depending on the size of people. I watched a BMW 8 Series review. The reviewer, having climbed in the back, stated that the rear seats were more occasional than useful and that headroom was limited, but he didn't state how tall he was, so the information wasn't much use. I'm 5'7" so I'd like to know, with the driver's seat adjusted for me, how much space would be available behind me.
Same here….this is exactly what I’d like to know in regards to the 911. I’m around 5’9 and I’d love to know the max height of an occupant to sit comfortably behind me in the 911. Quite a simple question really, but not much information available on it.
In the 997.2 my 5ft 7/8 14year old daughter feels too cramped to sit behind me for any length of journey probably up to an 1hr. Beyond that, she couldn't sit there. Headroom was fine, but legs to torso were too compacted by the front passenger seat set partially back.

She cannot fit behind me as a driver at 6ft 3 and quite a broad chap - there is no room at all.

Only way to really tell these things is the test drive and take the kids - sorry to say that was my downfall. Walked away dejected as fell in love with the car but I know i won't be able to own one till they are at least 18, and driving themselves and even then, wont be ever to really go away on a trip together unless they bring their own cars - so the likelihood a 911 is not on the cards till i'm retired at 55 and the kids have flown the nest.

Yes the mustang does sound like a great option right now, the rear seat space does seem a lot more spacious than the 911 (not sure if anyone can confirm that?), I’m sure the NA V8 sounds very good (most likely better sounding than the V6 in the Gulia QV?) and also lots of fun whilst going slow which is major bonus too as I don’t track my cars to be able to get enjoyment out of them. I’m also hoping that once they darkhorse is released it will be a looker too!

It obviously won’t be my dream car as that no.1 spot is reserved for the 911 but until I can confirm that the Porsche will be ok to live with for us until my children hit around 16, I dare not pull the trigger on the 911.

Well I’m only around 5’9 so maybe (or hoping) that it would be more workable for me, plus my Mrs is only just about 5’2.

Has your wife ever tried sitting behind you in the back?
She finds the base of the seat too tight for her hips but her height isn’t the issue. The 991 and on chassis has a longer wheelbase so cannot be compared with the 997 and previous. My son hasn’t been in the back with the roof up. The car is not currently with me so I cannot check at the moment.

My BIL has just swapped his E93 M3 Convertible for a 911(991.2) Convertible and he said the rear seats are absolutely tiny in comparison. He is 5'10" and his much shorter 16 year old daughter struggles for space sat behind him as well.

I guess that a test drive is definitely needed to see for yourself though.

No convertibles on the potential shortlist? I must admit I love having one for this sort of usage, with my M3 its either roof off or in the garage.

Clearly that is way under budget, what about an M4?

Hmmm…I guess I’ll have to go down and take another look, so many discrepancies between people’s opinions on the rear seat space on the 911.

If the 911 doesn’t work out, it’s going to have to be a choice between the Gulia QV & Mustang Darkhorse….which is also a difficult decision….Italian beauty Vs American muscle!

What do you all think of the DB11? Prices seem to be coming down on this GT, and I know it’s a ‘big’ car and the infotainment is crap in similar vain to the Masser - I think Apple car play can be added.

But what about the rear seats in the DB11? Any larger than the 911?

Also any opinions in regards to which car from the Mustang Dark Horse or the Gulia QV would be the best fit for someone whom doesn’t track their cars but likes a nice cruiser and also something a little fun & engaging for the normal roads.

If you want to blend in? Get the Alfa biggrin

When it comes to the 911, the 991 is quite a bit bigger in the back than the 977.

OP, just go test drive and then buy a 911 coupe. It is the car you want and this is literally the last chance you have to use it for family outings before your eldest gets too big.

You will always regret it if you don’t. And if it is too small in 2 years’ time, at least you had a family 911 for 2 years!

You will also love driving it when on your own. They are far lighter than any other option (Carrera 2 coupe - dont get a 4 or targa etc).

A Giulia or M3 wont feel remotely special as a family high days car compared to a 911, Maser coupe or indeed a S class coupe as suggested.

Life is short and kids grow fast. Do it. biggrin

Yeah I guess the Alfa isn’t as ‘special looking’ as the others….it’s a shame they kept the same body as the rest of the Gulias. Do you think the Mustang would look and feel a little more special for weekend drives?

Hmmm…didn’t realise that the 991 is quite a bit bigger than previous iterations….here’s me hoping it’s ‘big enough’……lol

If the 911 is your dream car, the it will work for you, but it will also 'blend in'. The Mustang will be an event every time you take it out.

Haha. Thanks for the encouragement….I’m going to potentially need it when I pop down to the dealer again….and the Mrs tried to explain to me that it’s too cramped for the kids in the back…lol.

911 makes total sense now, before the kids get any bigger.

I have a GT (with CarPlay) and a 7yo in the back driving

Hmmm.....do you believe that the Mustang would feel like more of an 'occasion' in driving it rather than the 911?? I had always thought that the 911 would feel like a more exotic sports car feel in comparison to a Mustang but maybe I am mistaken??

Nice! You have a Maser GT? Did you get the carplay installed aftermarket? What is the reliability like? I still think the 911 is the one that I am hoping makes sense to me right now.

Just get the 911. If what you keep going back to so obviously what you want, just get it done!

Or do as I did, 3 kids and a wife none remotely interested in cars so bought a 2 seater mid engine v10 for me & another cheap 5 seater car to tootle around in with the kids.

That works perfectly. No such thing as a one car ticks all boxes, I reckon you need at least 3 cars.
