The right thing:
Replace the tyre with something of the correct size/profile/speed rating. It doesn't matter if it's a budget tyre.

The wrong thing:
Use a sharpie to colour the nail head black. Ensure the tyre rotation is suitably obscured by the ground when BCA arrive. Save the hassle/expense. If they call you back about it on further inspection I suspect the nail was a product of the BCA driver taking it back to base.

The option thing:
If there's decent tread left on the tyres, if may be worth sticking 4x Nankang/Chintyre on it and selling the 3x Mich tyres.

  • Assumption, you've known about the nail for a while but continued to drive on it as it's holding pressure, and that you accept there's a risk to whomever picks it up. No judgement cast.
I was under the impression that you could not use a budget tyre and that it had to be exactly the same tyre that was on the car when you received it?

They'll bill you a new tyre, unsure about fitting and balance. Notice none of my options were "tell them", as it makes no sense to do so, if they notice that's down to their diligence.

It's difficult to say, but if those other tyres are significantly worn, they may try you on for changing the whole axle.

Too late now, but Ebay has plenty of part worn tyres. So in future, just buy the same model of part worn tyre and put it on before returning the car.

For those interested in e-Golf's, I just got the following offer through on email. Seems pretty good especially given basis 10k p/a.

This is a good deal I reckon and a nice car to boot.

Cheaper if you go for the 18 month term instead of the 24 months

Wish you could get the estate for that sort of money.
Looks like the deal has been pulled.

My deal with with a main dealer (price matched) was pulled this morning after they were told by Volvo that the “special offer” was only on a certain batch of pre-reg ‘19 cars. They now appear to be gone/extremely limited from what I’ve seen.

The OSV offer mentions Active Info Display which is the digital dash? This is not standard on the E Golf correct?

£500 option, maybe they got the spec wrong as it's not standard (only on GTi, R etc)

Check the terms of the contract, but, if they're to spec and of a reasonable quality it should pass go. The terms usually are completely ambiguous when it comes to "class" and never once have I seen specific brands mentioned in a contract.

Likewise :-) .. tbhbthere are some deals about for both saloon and hatch, but not quite at my budget...yet.
My problem is I think it looks a bit boring / rubbish without the 2.5k AMG styling pack which is like 100pm extra!
What is the best deal you’s have seen on them so far?
I actually prefer them without the aero kit. Looks understated, abit of a sleeper ;-)

Thanks, that's really helpful - just looking at e-Golf deals at the moment!

I wouldn't be adding any options to the i3 to be honest, standard kit is enough, especially given that the newest car I've ever owned is from 2008. And a Fiat Panda. It'll feel like I'm literally in the future biggrin

ETA - The problem is I don't actually want an e-Golf. Just because it looks, well, like a Golf.

Hi Neal, the i3 is great. I had a base spec i3 for a time and loved it. Not so practical for the kids though,

If you can stretch to the Ipace, I'd recommend it. It's a big step up.

In need of some advice about VW lease and returning vehicle!

I have a Golf GTI being collected by BCA on Friday. Front left tyre (nearside) has a nail in the shoulder which by law is illegal to repair so looks like I might have to swap it out before collection.

I have the exact same model and brand tyres (pliot sport 4) on all corners, do I have to replace it with another pilot sport 4 or can it be any “premium tyre”?
When my GTD was collected the guy grabbed the keys and drove straight off.

It's up to you if you want it on your conscience the risk of a blow out.

The manufacturer usually have a list of approved tyres, I know Audi soon their website.

Thanks all for your advice.

I might get all 4 corner swapped for some premium-part worns OR take the front two off and replace with identical brand/model so the tyres stay the same on the front axle.

My rear pilot sports are on about 5mm so could sell them for £40-50 a pop?

I heard back from the dealer. They were stock launch edition vehicles so presumably only a few left which have now gone.
