Hoping people can help me with this one....

I took out a contract on a Seat Leon 1.4 FR ehybrid DSG back in Oct 21 through Pentagon Group/Huddersfield Seat. Long story short, I never got the car after a series of delays which according to the dealer were due to manufacturing issues with this particular vehicle. The deal I got then was 6 + 23 x £218.89 based on 8,000 miles per annum / 11.98p Excess Mileage, with a £199 fixed maintenance package + £350 delivery.

After nearly a year of delays I'd all but given up on ever seeing the car and extended my current lease instead, but didnt cancel the order on the slim chance that I might get it eventually at 2021 prices and could negotiate the delivery date to align with the end of my current deal. Yesterday the dealer called me to say that due to ongoing supply issues with this car, all orders have now been cancelled by VWFS. He said these cars just arent getting made because parts come from the Ukraine, but I have seen several on the road and have had other lease brokers try to offer me one from stock in the mean time, so not sure how true this is. I have seen on the Seat website that orders for these were suspended in April last year though, so not really sure what to believe. The same dealer has offered me an alternative deal, due for delivery in August (though I can delay delivery until my current lease expires next March), this apparently includes a £3000 discount for those with a cancelled order, but I need to agree in the next couple of days if I want it. The new deal is:

Cupra Leon Hatch ETSi 150 V1 DSG Inc Metallic Paint 6 + 23 x £272.54. Based on 8,000 Miles per Annum / 6p Excess Mileage. Yet to confirm whether maintenance or delivery is included (I expect similar terms to the previous deal though).

Having done a very quick comparison on Lease Loco this looks like a decent price for the car, but I'm well out of touch with current prices and nearly £8k over 2 years seems a lot for a relatively standard family hatch. I'm also concerned about getting my fingers burnt with this particular dealer again. What are people's thoughts?

EDIT: Seems I can get a deal on a similar spec Cupra Leon ehybrid VZ2 through Zen Auto showing 4-6 weeks delivery, so the above deal doesnt seem so good by comparison. What are my rights here? Clearly the same car is being built under the Cupra badge instead, so could I argue for one of those at the price I signed up to?

I noticed the other day there's a thread on a Tiguan forum about their version of this car and orders being cancelled. Yet someone chanced upon one just delivered to a dealership and bought it. https://www.tiguanforums.co.uk/threads/tiguan-e-hy...

I think you'll struggle to get them to match it, the dealer Zen is working with, seem to have a load of them and must have got a bulk discount or something. I'm sure you can easily cancel the order with the Huddersfield dealer and order from Zen direct, but I then also be very surprised if they held it until March for you.

I think you can ask Zen to delay by up to 45 days from their proposed delivery date but that will be it

It could just be that they are lying and can no longer offer said deal so they are now offering something at current market pricing with no actual discount. I’ve experienced the same with a Leon wherein they tried to fob us off with a old reg car a few days after the new reg came out even though it was advertised as the new one and in the end they agreed to provide the new reg vehicle at the agreed price. Issues such as these can arise and it depends on how upfront and honest these companies are, I would expect better from a dealership though in your case.

My VZ2 is being delivered next week from Zen, which was at the short end of the delivery estimate. (9-12 weeks and will have been 2 months exactly). This caused me a bit of a headache as my current lease wasn't due to end until October.

As others have said you can delay by 45 days which was my intention, however when I reached out to my current lease company (Arval) I was pleasantly surprised at how little they wanted for an early settlement. I seem to remember reading a few pages back about VWFS being really competitive on early settlements too. So I would definitely reach out to your current lease and enquiry about the early settlement if it's the VZ2 you're interested in and you don't want to wait.

There's quite a bit of difference from the V1 and the VZ2, some cosmetically but also mechanically. The VZ2 has DCC suspension which in comfort mode will probably make it a more comfortable drive than the V1 with it's fixed (lowered from the Seat) suspension if you're after a comfortable family hatch.

The VZ2 is also PHEV as opposed to being a MHEV, so depending on your commute/lifestyle you might be able to save a fair penny by driving on purely electric.

There's been a lot of press about the rise of Cupra since it became its own sub-brand and how likely it is this Seat will cease to exist in its current form in the future. Cupra's have a higher price tag, so probably have a higher profit margin, so it wouldn't surprise me in the current shortages if parts are being prioritised for the Cupra.

Hope that helps

Others have made great points, just to add at 6p /mile excess I’d be asking to requote at 5k and doing the maths. I’ve seen this before on VW group deals - better to minimise the contract mileage and keep a side fund for the excess at the end!

Anyone looked at Hyundai Mocean? Tucson Premium 1.6 Manual on 1+24 8k is £480.87 to lease, or £445 inc insurance and servicing through Mocean (links below). Appreciate no one’s jumping on a Tucson manual at £480 so not a great baseline but with the Mocean package worth ~£50 month (insurance + servicing) that is not uninteresting

Those RWD German built Model Y’s are really good value as a size per £ ratio. It’s massive inside and would make a good 2nd car while keeping an ICE for longer stuff.

Tesla in Scotland told me the other week that all RHD Model Y are from Shanghai, and Berlin factory is producing LHD variants only.

How many miles are you doing in one go?
There are plenty of superchargers dotted about to get you going again in about twenty minutes.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.. couldn't find the general leasing post.

Coming up to the end of an Arval lease. When the contract expires, do I continue paying the current monthly rental charge if I don't sign an official extension?

Wife has just ordered an Electric MINI Cooper S from Fleet Solutions (NHS) on Salary sacrafice.

Going to share cost with daughter who's hopefully will pass her test in late July.

36+0 at £273pcm 8000 miles including insurance (up to 4 additional drivers), tyres, servicing etc..

Does impact pension but daughter's contribution will offset that plus savings on fuel/insurance/tax when I sell my E36 will hopefully make it a painless experience.

This is the place that did the ID Buzz for £400ish pcm a few months ago but they went in literally a few hours.

Obviously no use unless you're NHS smile

The car will be inspected and collected on a pre-arranged date....leases don't naturally drop onto 'rolling monthlies' unless you have pre-agreed it with the lender. Cancel your direct debit once the final (Agreed) payment comes out.

I’d like to rent one and see. Spoiler alert - we don’t normally stop on the journey up and travel later evening. So this isn’t a pop at EV’s of which I have owned 2. It’s the reality of fitting in cheeky walking and cycling trips into a busy family and work diary while visiting my aged parents in the lakes…. So

It’s 305 miles door to door. Our Skoda 1.5TSI had a 600mile tank range so we have been used to not thinking about stopping. It’s not just the one leg either. No destination charger in Borrowdale, so we have to arrive with enough left to do 2 days of driving around AND get us to the Supercharger in Tebay services on the way back home. So we really need to be full leaving the most northern M6 chargers to enter and exit without issues.
