Nuff respect for holding that at 4,500 RPM to do 90MPH for hours on end. Probably means the engine will be worn out by 2.5 million miles rather than 8 million miles.

It's a good old bus, though I seem to be the only one who thinks so, everyone else thinks they're crap! laugh

Definitely a thread vehicle at £3k paid 7 years ago, one owner, fsh, 39,000 miles.

True.

On the subject of long-geared barges with decent engines, does anyone else find that there's an almost complete absence of engine braking in town/city driving that gives you a different driving "rhythm" to other traffic?

The engine is barely ticking over at 30mph so it feels like a choice between using the brakes more than feels mechanically sympathetic to match the deceleration of hoi polloi with their fun-size engines, or leaving bigger gaps and getting tailgated by people who you know would be holding you up on the open road.
My v8 merc changes down the gears when on a 20mph cruise (control) in sunny Wales. It has to use engine braking to maintain speed as it does not have adaptive cruise on that car and can't use the brakes. So it shifts down and you're bumbling along at 2300rpm / 20mph - instead of the 1200 it would be doing at 30.

It's not classical barge but is still large, old, potentially troublesome and just the geezer taking a picture of himself lying down in the back to demonstrate the size of it meant it was worth posting I think: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145701697494

Very much so. Not sure the condition warrants luxo bargeness, but the vibe is definitely of here.
Reclining in the back seat down pose, is that ‘Pharding wink

I'm trying hard to avoid the 'wealth whispers...' trope, so beloved of PH.

A '40 is the poor mans Volvo. If it had been a fully loaded 960.. basically the same car but very much more thread appropriate.

Poor bloke, sounds like life has squashed him. Hopefully he'll be back to spending thousands on cars worth hundreds soon though, and living on his own in peace and bliss while he does it.

I can't get excited for the 166 but I hope someone buys it and finishes the project.

Bit of an unusual one here... I don't think we've had one on here before. It's more of a Sport-Lecht than a Sonder so bit of a stretch to call it a barge, but like the SL it's neither sporty nor leicht.

I'll graciously stand aside and let someone else take a punt on this. Pretty sure you'll never see another one when out in it.

V8 - check
Performance hugely out of line with the size of engine - check
Suitable marque for a barge - check
Designed to waft - check

Doug DeMuro did a video on it a few years ago, if you are thinking "What the hell is that?!"

I posted that Caddy last summer when it didn't sell at 5750, or 4750 by the time it had dropped to still unrealistic money, the ad being from last Aug suggests bumping the price back up (to cover whatever an mot cost maybe?) still isn't working.

Ooh, there we go, facts, not my ailing memory, knew it was 5750 when I first posted it given it was likely to draw ire anyway. Didn't realise it had dropped to 4.

Thought this looked cheap, "spear or repair", given the amusing adornment spearing should be quite easy, it's a big target.

Cat D, parked on the beach. What could possibly etc.

Meanwhile, in Friday money, these F types have been coming down nicely

I think when the time eventually comes an F Type R is what I'll replace my car with, they're really a laugh. Would be the AWD version for me though.

I do fancy an F-type if they get properly cheap.

The worst thing about that Allante is the colour, is it Trump Fun Fair Gold?

Clearly we're all being too polite and graciously allowing someone else to experience the joy of this magnificent machine.
