Honestly gents, the pictures and commentary has ended me tonight. Absolutely fantastic work with the shorts Foeux. Very much a man’s man and I’m picking up more than a hint of Flashman in your prose.

SpeckledJim - I think you have found your people.
I am having an absolute whale of a time. I am a hopeless car-pervert and this is the sort of stuff I hope to be able to curate and revisit joyously in my mind when I am no longer able to do it.

I am very glad to have found my people, captured the spirit of the thread and entertained people so far.

A slightly more sentimental take on this is that a man who did a lot of surrogate fathering for me, a man I loved and respected with all my being, used to have one of these. He was incredible. Incredible fun, incredibly rude, incredibly affable, generous, insightful, thoughtful, creative - things we all wish we could be. His wife still owns his A8. She drives it loads and won't sell. This is a bit of a nod to him, too.

The shorts leave me unmoved, but that brings a tear to my eyes. Splendid reason to buy it - I hope it treats you well.

bloody brilliant, you're doing your surrogate father proud I'd say!

tremendously looking forward to the French version, with the string of onions strategically placed over the parsnip of passion.

exhanging the Nikes for Le Coq Sportif for the trip I assume for the truly authenic look?

Tremendous Audi imagery! A joy to behold, but frankly I can’t get over how long it is.

I always knew you were a wrong 'un. Were you schooled in the 70s; what's wrong with centimetres for goodness sake?

I wasn't clued up on that reference so went looking. I will go charity shopping. Cheers.

PS on charity shopping, I think I have exhausted all of my luck and karma in that regard. I had a party to go to in the middle of the woods on the border with wales. It was a 2 dayer. I had to be dressed in Medieval attire. The first charity shop I attended had a perfect barbarian costume in my size. Incredible.

I suppose it is worth mentioning what the thing is like to use as I discover more.

It is a wide car. Can't touch other window. That's a good arbitrary measure of width isn't it? It is long. It pokes out of spaces, pokes off the drive unless you bump park.

It deals with fuel in the most amusing way of any car I've owned. It can whisper along, double glazing shut, 10% throttle pedal or less just gliding about swallowing pot holes and speed bumps with aplomb. Mat the accelerator and it will surge off with torque you think will be served just as one lump or tail off or peter out. No. It just keeps changing gear, keeps shoving and there is barely any indication that you are setting the land speed record. I genuinely believe you could get a cross policeman to drive the car after offering the excuse, "Sorry officer, I didn't realise how fast I was going..." and for them to be suitably placated and maybe even apologetic.

It is thirsty when you shoe it, it isn't when you don't. The tank is a whopper and it feels horrid filling it up.

All chums I've taken around in it have loved it. It is a car that (at least amongst the plonkers and plonkeresses that I hang about with) encourages fun and kindles the desire to just go off somewhere driving for lunch or something. Conversely, all people I drive past don't notice it at all - it is fully anonymous. It is, for the moment, debadged. I can't decide whether to reinstate them or not.

The above paragraph was a lie. One person has admired the car as my chum and I ogled theirs, a beaten up old nissan patrol. Green with rusted chrome and the scars to suggest a hard and interesting life.

Anyone else on this thread got or had one?

What happened to Macron and 21CM? All those accusations of flouncing being thrown about by all and sundry and we've lost two stalwarts as well as the sulkers.
21CM is currently in his garage with a Montego, a Stihl saw and a MIG welder creating a two-door convertible. Depending on the results I may then have a go at a 126 touring, although Mrs Stegel is balking at taking on the tulip girl role.

Surely those Audi images are deemed NSFW…

Yesterday I followed a Toyota Vellfire V6. JDM rear number plate shape. Looked like a similar sized thing. Anyone know what they are?

By any definition that is one ugly car, representing a fecund lifestyle I don't much want of hungry offspring and sticky fingers, but I find myself loving it.

Would be a shame to ban Fouex just on the basis of those shorts, although people have been banned for less skimpy attire. He has brought life to the thread again. Great job with the Audi, puts me to shame given I have been *thinking* about washing the car for weeks, but no more.
