OP, just go test drive and then buy a 911 coupe. It is the car you want and this is literally the last chance you have to use it for family outings before your eldest gets too big.
You will always regret it if you don’t. And if it is too small in 2 years’ time, at least you had a family 911 for 2 years!
You will also love driving it when on your own. They are far lighter than any other option (Carrera 2 coupe - dont get a 4 or targa etc).
The relative low weight of my BILs 911 was what stood out to me when drove it as well, and they feel quite light on their feet for a German car I reckon. You will always regret it if you don’t. And if it is too small in 2 years’ time, at least you had a family 911 for 2 years!

So I’m now coming closer to a final list:
Porsche 991.2 (any) - absolute dream car but most likely far less space in the back and than any of the above mentioned cars.
.
You would be mad to get anything but your dream car. The kids are 6 and 10, and its an occasional car- you can fold them in in you have to!!! Anyway, Im sure they will love it and not mind it being cramped. Porsche 991.2 (any) - absolute dream car but most likely far less space in the back and than any of the above mentioned cars.
.
Worst comes to worst you have to swap again in a few years time once the older hits 14 or 15, but otherwise it will be a long time until they have flown the nest and you get your dream car.

Also any opinions in regards to which car from the Mustang Dark Horse or the Gulia QV would be the best fit for someone whom doesn’t track their cars but likes a nice cruiser and also something a little fun & engaging for the normal roads.
The Mustang sounds better than the Giulia at low speeds, almost TVR like. But the Guilia is more tuneful and overall has much more depth of engagement.

You could be right there….I’m now leaning more and more towards to the 911, maybe one more trip to the dealership and a test drive…and I could end up getting one, but if it’s definitely a no no from the Mrs after the visit then I’m thinking straight to the Ford dealership.
Get the kids onside and then it’s a 3-1 vote for the Porsche. One thing to consider is that 911 is much more airy in the back than the stang (even if less room).

Is the 911 more airy in the back? I didn't realise that. Hmmm....is that due to the shape and slope of the rear end?One thing to consider is that 911 is much more airy in the back than the stang (even if less room).
You also need to consider that dependent on model you'll only have 125-145 litres of bootspace to work with if 4 up in a 991.2 so one of these might be an essential addition for weekends away with the kids.

I took some pics inside the back of the current Mustang just give you an idea of the vision available. I estimated the hieght of your children’s eyes for the camera.
It’s a pity the front seats don’t slide forward, they only tip.
And a photo just because…
Thank you so much for that, I really appreciate it, it’s been very helpful indeed. I see now why some consider the rear of the 911 a little more airier than the mustang, yet the mustang definitely feels more spacious though. It’s a pity the front seats don’t slide forward, they only tip.

Yep - owned both (currently have a Mustang) and the Giulia is so much more capable it's incredible. But the Guilia is more tuneful and overall has much more depth of engagement.
The Mustang is more of an event car, dominated by the engine and the noise. The performance in the Giulia is far more exploitable and accessible.
I'm having to throw some money at the Mustang just to get it how it should have been from the factory.

What are you thinking of having done?
So far, I’ve concluded the following, although all subjective of course:
The Gulia QV, an absolutely cracking car but looks wise, a bit mediocre and not very special looking and seems like just an upgraded sedan from appearance until the Ferrari derived engine starts up.
The Db11, which is going to come down in price shortly as the new DB12 has been released. Gorgeous looks and very special but rear seats possibly even tighter than the 991.2
So they leave the mustang dark horse and 991.2. Both cars have gorgeous looks and the dark horse has the sounds, not sure about the 991.2?
I even considered the new G87 M2 in one of the new frozen colours such as frozen grey but it still looks far too Lego-ish for me.

Just to throw another option out there as you've mentioned the DB11..

Regarding the 991.2 noise wise, my BIL has the factory sports exhaust on his and it sounds good for a 3.0 twin turbo I reckon, and it was a lot louder(and much better sounding) than my F82 M4 is. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
