Plenty of comments about WBAC turning up and knocking loads off for the most minor things too. The benefit with them is easy payment and they just come and collect the car it’s all very impersonal.
Presumably from people who have not actually used them. They don’t collect the car - you take it to them. They don’t knock money off if you declare all defects and have the paperwork and mileage correct.
I obviously havent used them, but have first hand accounts of declaring issues on the website but then losing money when the car is exchanged.

I guess its much like private sales where people say 'im never selling private it is full of scammers' - which is utter nonsense. But dont kid yourself WBAC is foolproof and on occasions things dont go to plan. That is also nonsense.

With WBAC the problems experienced are normally due to non declaration of faults and blemishes. The issue is that WBAC measure all cars against the standard of a brand new one. Which for example with reference to say an 18 year old Fiesta would be ridiculous but that is how they do it. So you can’t expect any credit for the car being in ‘fantastic condition for its age’ - it has to be literally as new or every tiny thing has to be declared, which generally people don’t.

I'd second that, they gave me exactly the £32k they offered for my SL400, they honoured exactly the £33.5k they offered for my Mustang and they gave me £72k for my nearly new Defender 90, which was actually £800 more than expected as id ticked 1 previous owner when I should have selected 0.

If you describe accurately they are good. The defender offer was £3k over what it cost new and £6k more than the dealer offered.

Has anyone noticed the seemingly recent phenomenon of a certain kind of dodgy car ad on Facebook Marketplace ?
Find a car that looks keenly priced then click on sellers other items to see that some housewife is apparently selling 35 assorted cars, diggers, speedboats and vans ! All at super low prices !
I made the mistake of not checking other items and enquired on a 2008 Boxster S the other day to immediately receive a generic response complete with email address...realising this was probably a hacked account I reported this to Facebook.
Response ? Nil. Its still there.

Exact same thing is happening on eBay. A (clearly hacked) account with feedback for buying a few odds and ends suddenly has 10 motor homes or SUVs for sale, all at a 1/3 to 1/2 of their actual value.

I assume the scam is if you email them they cannot do a viewing as they are in the army or work on a north sea oil rig, but if you send the money via western union they will arrange to have the motor home/car delivered.

I have reported loads of these when my parents were looking for a motorhome and nothing was done.

2014 Volvo D5. Their 'assessor' (someone who used to work in a call centre) told me it would be -£400 for 3 stone chips on the front. The chips were into black plastic not paint..

Block, ignore, but post the service book to the name and address given, with a note stating you've forwarded on as promised, by tracked and signed for delivery, with photographic proof of you doing so, too - if this is rejected, you have further proof against the moron. Also, KEEP ALL OF THE BOOK PACK IN THE CAR, only insurance certificates and V5 needs to be kept "safe" in the house.

No. all service history belongsto the bin now. He had the chance of an amicable deal and careful road-test -his choice. He changed the rules, now you can play the game.

OP Don't be a pussy!

I’m not sending the service book! If I find out later on it’s been sold on (as I suspect) then the next owner can have it.

Description in ad said it was missing so it was sold on the basis (and arguably price).

I won’t bin it though because someone might find it useful.

Good luck finding the next owner....

Keep an eye on totalcarcheck.co.uk - it'll tell you when it's advertised and how much for - just not which website etc.

Also the comment regarding signed for post is to see if the name and address is legit.... I sign cars over to the name and address on their driving licence when selling a car.

Will do, quite often see owners groups and such on Facebook have new owners posting up, it’s a long shot bht worth keeping a watch on!

Indeed - but presumably the chips were not declared when you filled in the enquiry form? Because those chips, regardless of where they were, would not be present on a brand new car and are therefore identified as defects under the WBAC condition assessment system and deductions are made.

I think it’s a crazy system by the way - I’m not defending it, just explaining it. The two cars I sold them in the past year were three months old and as new with no defects.

Closing this out LP63YSN has appeared for sale today in East Sussex for £6,250 on marketplace from the guy who bought it off me:

Bmw X1 Xdrive 20D Xline auto
8 speed automatic 2014 63 plate
2.0 Diesel twin turbo 130k 1 owner
With full service history timing chain
Done at 120k moted till December
4 brand new tyres just had a full service
The car it self is in showroom condition
Inside and out top spec modal everything
Works as it should new disc and pads front
And back any inspection is welcome px welcome

Unless he’s just had it serviced, but the timing chain was NOT done at 120k, it’s had 3 owners now, it’s got a dent to the rear bumper and the tyres and brakes aren’t new.

It hasn’t got FSH with it though because I’ve still got the book.

What an absolute peice of human trash.

I don’t have the energy! But clearly there needs to be more action you can take with these sort of people.
