Hi all, I'm fairly new to leasing and have a couple of questions.

If you take out a 24 month lease do you typically have to get it serviced it once or twice before handing it back?

Same question for 36 months, is it 2 or 3 services?

Also when the lease ends, do you hand it back on the anniversary date of the lease or can you hand a few weeks/months before the anniversary date?

Thanks

there are obvious answers to these; you are overthinking it. You get it serviced per schedule - there is no magic to it... if it tells you the service is due now, you get it serviced now. Or if the book says it needs it, you get it done. Every car is different, and the lease doesn't affect what the car needs. You hand the car back on the day you arrange to do so, which is near enough the 2 year mark, but can be earlier or later if you agree it.

After 2 months of reading every single post, I decided to go for the E-Golf, 8k a year, 5ppm and 24m with the winter pack - £7,168.

Now just from pure curiosity, did anyone get a better deal recently or a slot sooner than the one I got which is half January?

You have the right to understand delivery by driving it to you is entirely legitimate and, although it would be nice if it was on a trailer, you should have specifically asked if that was a problem for you.
For some leases the mileage allowance only starts when the car is delivered to you, so the delivery mileage doesn’t count. Might be worth checking.

In any case, what is the actual cost to you?
VWFS have tried to charge me for the delivery mileage (25ppm excess so not insignificant and better in my pocket)
As with previous posters -months and years ago- the call centre said that I should contact the dealer who delivered it.
When I pointed out that my contract was with them and not the dealer - and nowhere does it say the count they escalated it as a complaint and I’m waiting to hear back.
Of course I’ll post the results on here when I hear from them.

Can someone advise whether I need to take GAP insurance? If so are there certain companies to avoid?

I had a similar issue with my golf r.

delivery mileage from london to scotland...approx 500 miles
dealer says speak to vwfs, vwfs say take it up with the dealer.

I ended up having to pay the extra.

Had a bit of a surprise yesterday to receive an invoice in the post from Volvo Financial Services for £18 for changes to road fund licence for my leased V90. Had to dig out my contract to see the small print and yes they can indeed charge me for increased road tax. Considering how far in advance the government announces increases I’m surprised they hadn’t built it in to monthly costs. Not a huge amount but a shock all the shame.

Most cars are ?000miles or every 12 months. So you can't get out of having it serviced regardless of mileage You can hand back early, but you will have to pay a proportiion of the remaining lease. EG on a typical MB lease you would pay 95%.

If you're worried about cost, then factor in the highest and see if you still think its a good deal. For instance, MB again, 2nd year service is around £500...so add £20 a month to your lease payments. Still a good deal? ;-)

Wasn't much extra as i was more or less close to my allocated mileage.

It was only 7.2p a mile extra back then so it would have cost me approx £28 for 400 miles.

Penny pinching from the dealer in my eyes. How is VWFS meant to know delivery arrangements etc.

I cancelled mine two weeks ago for an i-pace, same spec you've ordered and i'm still tracking it with the order number... it's currently awaiting loading onto the boat. PM me if you want the dealers details. £285 3+23 10k miles a year, £7,440 so looks same as yours with extra miles.

On a 24 month lease you can get away with just doing 1 if you delay the first service by a week or two and in most instances, you will end up returning the car before the date of which your contract started.

There was a deal for the 5 seater just a few weeks back at around £480 inc vat on 9+23 and the 7 seater version was ‘about £20/30 more’ when I enquired
Might be worth waiting again for them to drop to a similar price?

which of course is bullst because it totally depends upon the car, especially as with many cars these days they have variable, condition based servicing, and some models split the services into lots of smaller ones too...

Missed the boat on the A5 deal - was awaiting the dealer to get back to me as he was sure he could beat the online prices (which were working out around £310 amortised per month). Called me back too late - I have a suspicion he was waiting for the quarter to end and deals to disappear. Best he could do was £325 a month on a 6+23 10k mileage.
Back to the drawing board - if anyone sees any good A5 deals let me know - but I guess that ship has sailed now!!
