Ouch! What was the problem?
Oil leaks in three different places mostly, but quite a long list. It had been put into Volvo two or three years ago for using oil and they said it was fine, keep topping it up. I suspect it wasn't, but the car's now old enough that Volvo UK aren't going to help. We'll get it to an independent and see if they can save it for less, otherwise it's scrap.

Had a drive in an S60 T5 Inscription Plus on Saturday.
Actually quite liked it, seats were very comfy, fuel economy a tad lacking and the gearbox was at times a little 'off' - just like it couldn't truly decide on which gear to be in.
The car was a 20 plate, grey with cream leather and 26k on the clock
Just a touch over budget at 22k which I'd want to get down to around 20 - 2 years warranty and 2 services included in price with Volco finance.

Also considering now a 430i gran coupe - any thoughts on these? 19 plate, 33k on the clock but sub 20k.
Read this thread before buying a “30i” B48 engined BMW. The 20i version of the B48 is pretty decent, the 30i less so:

Peugeot 508's are good but I don't think you'll find one with a heated steering wheel or memory seats.

You might struggle to get a V60 with your desired spec under budget. Here's a T5 with the spec you want

With the saloon S60, the same spec is a fair bit cheaper as customers really desire the practicality an estate offers (lots of people have dogs/kids).

Just thought I'd give a quick update and also a thank you to yourself for pointing out the saloon.
In the end I upped the budget a little and went for a 3 year old S60 T5 Inscription Plus. Lovely spec and colour and it is just a very relaxing car to drive. Not a squeak or rattle to be found anywhere. A touch thristy (28-33mpg on average) but given the miles I do not a huge issue.
Got a couple of roof mounted racks included in the deal for my bikes and I'm a happy chap.
