I appreciate these are more windows down, slow cruise and watch the world go by type cars, which generally suits my demeanour, however I live amongst the hills and valleys of Yorkshire and slogging up some of the steeper hills can become tiresome when you're getting overtaken by HGVs and caravans.
I have established a rule of thumb of 100 bhp / tonne to minimise frustration, which at 140 bhp I think it would be within reach of, but not at 110 bhp

any bargists know if Audi's had massage seats option in the lovely A8 D3 or D4 - and how can you tell from an image - is it the extra buttons on the side at the base of the seat towards the back

The seats in my A6 of similar vintage had the usual seat base and seat back controls, as well as the red circled bit for lumbar adjust. It didn't have any of the blue circled switches, but I suspect those are for head restraint and leg support adjustment; the shape of the switch suggests to me at least that they toggle for extend / retract rather than controlling massage function

Think so, for a 320. Had a coupe with that engine and they are a great unit, that thing really moved.

re the floor vents, they all do that Sir. At least this vendor has had it up in the air and knows his onions.

I wouldn't buy another one though, as good as they are, the costs involved in keeping one ship shape are biblical and climbing.

I am not one to urinate on another man's chips but I can quite possibly guarantee that if you meet that vendor, you will find that he genuinely believes what he wrote in the advert, he has quite possibly not been actually dishonest. If you point out the visible crusty arches he will probably suggest that it's just a superficial issue. He also mentions that the car is "covered" as a plus point and then you can see that his version of the storage of a 30 yr old already rusty car in close contact with a beach is an outdoor tarp.

I had a smoke silver one of these that had NO visible corrosion-not one arch looked off and it was in it's original paint. My "man" had it off me for £1k and he is in a world of pain with it. There are a few threads on here from a while ago when some members did big resto's on these but you would need locking up in a padded cell to contemplate something similar in 2024.

I took mine to a well known specialist in Surrey before giving up on it, and I loved that car. He took 3 weeks to complete his estimate and you would have thought I was asking him to refurbish a rusty old Chinook when I had the "call" with him, I have never heard so much air being sucked between a human's teeth.

If you want one of these, do it, they are REALLY special, they must have been space ship type game changers when they came out and still do much of what they did when they were new even when needing lots of work. They hide it well.

Oh, and get a six cylinder one, mine was a 280 and it was adequate only. I actually might call the 320 vendor later, I like the cut of his jib, packed lunch in the passenger foot well with banana peels, give him a call before I do and save me from further pain, please.

i have seen massage function on some Vw's so assume it must be on Audi - interwebby suggests yes, but autotrader doesnt pull up any results

disclaimer: it's not impossible that on the A8 the circular control buttons have been repurposed to be massage function, and the toggle switches are for lumbar support, so don't take my word as gospel!

I had a D3 A8, and it had the circular thingy, but it wasn't massage seats. I think it was a 4 way adjustment for the headrest, but it was a while ago, and it's not something you adjust often.

If anyone is interested I've got a 2010 CLS350d "Grand Edition" to get shot of, needs a small amount of TLC but has a new 12 month ticket as of 10 minutes ago.

125k miles, full main dealer history (service due now I think), four nearly new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, wheels are scruffy, it needs engine mounts (£40 each and not a big job), there is an advisory on a rear damper that I'm not convinced about (also £40 each though) but if you sort those out it's a lovely smoker, the AC even blows cold. The Grand Edition gets a 270bhp version of the engine rather than the 220bhp odd the regular CLS350d had.

If nobody wants it I'll fix it and sell it properly. Mid thread and you can have it, it's supposedly a £3800 CAP retail car. Car is in Gloucester.
