Hi all,

I’ve decided to widen my search. I was exclusively looking at RX400h’s but am having no luck as they’re too tatty or ultra high mileage unless I increase the budget which I really don’t want to do as this will be a second car. I don’t need an suv but like the higher driving position and space is a bonus. Preferred a petrol auto but again choice is very limited so now want to consider diesels but at least 3 litres.

I’ve at one point or another included X3’s, X5’s, ML’s (either the 320 or 350), Cayennes in scope then ruled them out in favour of the Lexus but the ML seems good value.

I know the Lexus remains the sensible choice or a CRV or RAV4 but they are just too slow. Fuel economy is not a huge consideration but would probably rule out the 4.4 V8 X5 or the 4.5 cayenne. Reviews for all of them are mixed with a potential for a big bork factor (cayenne and X5 particularly so it seems). Would be grateful for the wisdom of this forum.

Cheers, Mark

If you want a full size SUV then I'd be looking at these:

3.0d Infiniti FX GT these come pretty fully loaded (air cooled seats/360 cameras etc) & are also CAZ/ULEZ compliant too:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202201201...

S Premium these really do come with everything (adaptive cruise etc)

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202201061...

3.7 Petrol comes with the same as the 370Z:

Or if you can live with a Q5 sized car then there's the 3.0d EX GT these have the same drivetrain as the FX above:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110088...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202112040...

The other one to look at is the Grand Cherokee.

5.7 hemi:

3.0d Overland

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103250...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202202052...

Or the ML350 are good value at the moment they share the their drivetrain with the Grand Cherokee above both are good drivetrains:

The Infiniti's are the pick at this price point but the other two are still good options.

Thanks, I’d stumbled across the Infinity FX before and quite like it’s looks but would be worried parts would be scarce and therefore expensive?

Am I mad to be considering a Cayenne of this vintage?

Parts aren't expensive & are easily available & not just from main dealers either.

L322 Range Rover with the 4.2 supercharged engine is the correct choice imo.

Rx350.....less popular than the rx400h so you get much more for your money.

High tax band though

What about an RX300 or 350? No hybrid stuff but a proper auto gearbox and 4wd.

Infiniti FX or RX350 really.

RX350 will have v6 chain engine, a low miles would be rare but bulletproof.

If you are into something more “Apocalyptic”, try Land Cruiser Colorado below, they are bonkers fantastic biggrin

I would not suggest Cayenne (or any porsche) between 2000-2009 even to my worst enemy... hehe
