Looking for a luxury yet sporty ground tourer.
Looking for a 2 door coupe, not keen on a convertible.
This will live in the garage as a second car, but might do the odd long drive.
Budget up to £60k
Max length 5m long, so some alternatives like the SL63 coupe are ruled out.

My spreadsheet is pointing me towards an m850i. It has everything tech wise with ultimate pack. Fast, but not built for the race track so semi comfortable.

What else should I be considering? Pros and cons

You sure about those sizes? I've got the 850i at 4850mm and the SL63 at 4700mm.

For an occasional car at £60k I'd want something from M, AMG or a more exotic brand.

Isn't a DB11 in that price range now?

For that kind of budget, personally I'd be looking at one of these over an M850i

I've had a couple of 840i's - admittedly the Gran Coupe versions, although did test drive a few standard coupe's too. Lovely cars, very stylish and the tech is great. If you're thinking of taking the occasional passager in the back, be aware it's v difficult getting in/out of the 2 door coupes. I think the biggest issue is the crashy ride. It's quite harsh and brittle for what is supposed to be a grand tourer, not helped by the fact they're all on quite low profile run flats.

Have you accidently got the length of the SL confused with an S Class Coupe? Two very different cars.

If the SL63 fits its a great option, coupe and convertible in one car. Needs a pano which 63's should have.

Yes got my cars slightly wrong.
S63 couple is too big.
SL63 I have tried. Lovely engine, smooth ride, while I tried a 2018 face lift model with only 8k on the clock, the tech felt old, (merc system not my fave anyway) no heated steering wheel, no surround view. It was quiet with the roof up, just a few squeaky noises on bumpy roads, but a lot to go wrong for saying I would very very rarely have the room down.

AMG GT I would like to try. Very pretty. But not ventilation seats on hard tops.

Gees, that Merc looks like a £100k motor.

When I bought my M440d at 5 months old nearly 3 years ago my son pointed out that an 8 series of a similar age was much the same price.

The M440 is a much more usable size (previous car was an 530) and with adaptive dampers the ride is sublime. There is plenty of space for 4 and the boot is a reasonable size.

Can’t get ventilation seats on a 4 series though.
Something I rather liked on my previous car - 750i

In the Middle East, I could see the benefit of ventilation seats. However in the UK, I don’t see this as a major issue.
