Buying a new car advice needed
Discussion
Assuming you're not a troll, you need to at least offer makes, models, spec levels, engines, gearboxes, etc, that you're considering for anyone to offer you the vaguest semblance of advice.
If you're buying a 4x4 to tow a caravan, a towbar would be a pretty essential extra. If you're buying a Ferrari 488 to tour the Amalfi coast the towbar's probably not so important.

This isn't a crazy question is it?
I've never bought a new car (I always lease) but I've heard of online services such as "Car wow" where dealers compete for your business. I've had friends who have used that service, printed out the results and taken them to their local main dealer to try to match.

Thanks for the replies.
The car is the unfortunately named new Peugeot Rifter.
I'm looking at the 130bhp diesel version for towing and overall power. It has a 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto gearbox - the auto does appeal but am I correct in saying automatic gearboxes are unsuitable for towing?
Has anyone used Carwow? The buyer chooses the car and spec then dealers bid for the order.

The only thing that might be different between the manual and auto when it comes to towing is the towing capacity, personally I would want the auto and if its the 8speed ZF box then even better.
The PSA diesels have a newly developed Aisin box it’s meant to be pretty goodGassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
