I am in the process of selling, not a car but thought it still may suit this forum, my vintage caravan.
It’s a unique caravan built c1928. Good condition and perfectly ready to use and tow, as I have done for the last number of years.
Couple email and arrange to view, round trip of about 120 miles.
Looks over caravan and I pop out and ask ‘is it to your liking’ the rely is ‘it’s not worth the money’ but it’s a nice caravan, Very abrupt and puts me on wrong foot. To which I say ‘thanks for coming to have a look’. Door shut.
Three weeks later couple email me again and say ‘it’s still for sale can we talk about the price’
I reply the advert says ‘or near offer’ make me an offer and I will seriously consider it’.
I then advise the caravan is going into two specialist club magazines, replies back ‘if it’s still for sale after that can we talk about price’ And then tells me that historic items shouldn’t go to highest bidder perhaps.

Never come across this type of non negotiation before, I can’t make up my mind, why would they not simply make an offer rather than talk about the price. Half of me wants to say not today mate.

As a seller I never negotiate, I give a price to sell fairly swiftly, or stick to a higher price when I can afford to wait.

I would just take their phone number and then say ‘I’ll keep your number for a week, and then discard it’. Don’t call them though.
Cheers, sounds good advise which I will follow.

I really don’t like stuff like that. Don’t mind a cheeky bid etc that’s life but stating who I should sell something I own too would grind with me.
Yes that almost had me going, very cheeky I felt.
Thanks to all posters, I’ve asked the chap to make an offer if he wishes and twice he hasn’t but came back with the stuff I mentioned. Strange that they chose to do a fair old mileage, as you all mention, and I felt before posting, what’s the item for no money.

Decided to delete their emails and forget them, if they contact again without an offer I will take the advise in here, please return email with offer or I will have to assume you are wasting my time.

sound like time wasters...your there to sell it not talk about it
Exactly, if I were buying and the ad’ tells me price ono then I would simply make an offer. Some real strange folk about it seems.
