What would you do - problem 'new' car?
Discussion
Bought a 2016 discovery 4, I'll start this by sayign the dealer has been great.
68k mile car, had a full service before I bought it, full history.
24 hours after arrving home, water in fuel light came on, it had just had a new fuel filter, they replaced the housing this time and sensor. Also had a knock in the driveline somewhere, they replaced the prop shaft centre joint.
week later, water in fuel light on again, in addition car had a couple of strange gearbox issues where the red light above the 'D' flashed and it wouldnt change up. They replaced the gear selector as it was showing as a fault(£400ish part) and replaced the fuel sensor and wiring.
3 days after getting it back(took 4/5 days as the gear selector was on back order), the engine ecu light has now come on.
What should I do? I feel like I just want it gone now. would I be out of order to ask for my money back? Dealer has been really good, however its had none stop issues and i feel like its a lemon.
I can see why landcruiser v8 D costs £10k+ more.

Explain your thoughts to the dealer who supplied the car & see how good they really are , I doubt they will take the car back for a full refund but its worth a go seeing all the hassle you are experiencing.
Plan B option , stick with it & hopefully they can it sorted again.
Plan C option see what else they have for sale & perhaps there is an other car you would interested in doing a change over.
I paid £1k depost on credit card, the rest cash, its been in the dealers 3 times, I can't see how they'd wriggle out of it? there's nothing they have that i'd want. it was 33 days ago that I paid for it.Plan B option , stick with it & hopefully they can it sorted again.

There are an awful lot of Disco's on the road. They are a very good vehicle and people love them (me included). If they were THAT bad, then why are there so many still trundling around. It's just about finding the good ones, which is a bit of potluck. I have considered swapping mine for a newer one several times, but the fact that mine is a good one, makes me stick with what I know.
A decent LR specialist knows them inside out and how to fix them. They aren't particularly complicated vehicles.
I get that. I just wish we'd got a landcruiser, for the better build quality and reliablity. I can see why they cost more used even though they cost less new.A decent LR specialist knows them inside out and how to fix them. They aren't particularly complicated vehicles.
As an update......
Dealer will not offer a refund.
Dealers offer for the Touareg, was the Touageg+£1500 refund.
We paid £24750 for the Discovery, a £2251 shortfall. Which I find quite amazing as an 'offer'. They won't do a swap on a cost neutral basis.
They've offered to take the car in again(its showing Nox related fault codes - likely to 'just' be a Nox sensor).
I've had zero 'fair use' of the car, so even though its over 30 days when I asked for a refund, I think the history backs it up. it has been multiple faults, I know I need to give them fair chance to repair, where does this actually stop though?

I know what you are saying but £2k will seem like a bargain to ditch that POS

So, to round the thread off........
I let them fix the issue(2 new NOX sensors).
48 hours later, critical oil warning on the dash. showing zero oil. I put in 3.5ltrs, no level.
They collected it yesterday, I got a refund today........... for the full purchase price. Just waiting for a refund on the warranty.
I think it might be an oil level sensor issue, however the car was dogs
t.
So upto £35k, ideally under £30, perfect world £25k.
tow a horse trailer with 2 small horse things. not have issues every 48 hours, fit a growing family of 5.
I'm tired of car hunting now.

there's some v90's at work that have been zero issue.
its only towing 10% or less of the time, the rest of the time I think it'll work well as a big family car.
This is the one i'm looking at

2 years warranty/servicing/mot's included(just trying to get them to include a tow bar........).

The Volvo looks good, high spec as I guess it was a Volvo UK car by the numberplate. MOT history looks clean.its only towing 10% or less of the time, the rest of the time I think it'll work well as a big family car.

Just double check the tyres as I think they'll be 20 or 21".
The dealership group have a good rep, I used to Golf with the founder..
