Roger, are you interested in making some more ? If so how much.

Hi Kevin

I set out to make the lights look proffesional and not home made but that takes time.

It takes about a week start to finish and I don't have the time to manufacture more of them.

Having said that, I'm happy to help anyone who wants to have a go themselves and can talk you through every stage.

Regards Roger

they look very nice, nice and professional looking

how did you make them ?

did you drill some big holes in some mondeo rear lights ?
Hi Gadgeroonie.

Assuming you are asking about the Marcos lights.

In simple terms:

Bought two lights from Ebay.
Cut out the insides but leaving the mounting studs, surround and clips for the distribution panel.
Cut two 102mm holes in the front where I wanted the new lights to sit.
Shaped and fitted two 100mm internal diameter aluminium tubes to take the new lights. (98mm ring lights)
Filled and sanded until perfect including the top which has a step in it where the rubber seal ends (made it flat)
Sprayed and polished
Modified the distribution panel so I could solder the new lights wiring to it.

The light units are self contained and a direct replacement with the originals.

Not too difficult to do but time consuming.

By using this method you can fit whatever lights you want just by changing the diameter of the aluminium tubes or by having more than two or maybe different sizes, it's your choice.

Regards Roger

Great effort Roger, shame you didn't make a batch, they would have sold here!!! This is the style I was going for, Jetstream seem quite a way off from completion, so this week I will contact my man and see what he can do. If you have any drawings or pictures on how you made these Roger, I would be most grateful.

Hi Wessexrfc

Thanks for the nice comments.

I made these lights as one offs for my Marcos as the Mondeo lights looked old fashioned and too bulky for the style of car.

As they are one offs and time consuming to make, they don't lend themselves to batch production.

The build cost is minimal excluding the new led lights, circa £50 for the pair which includes the Mondeo light units, aluminium tube, filler and paint. Total cost was about £190 all in. Obviously this excludes my labour.

They are not difficult to make, just time consuming. If you have model making or DIY skills you can make them.

If you like I can list exactly what I did to make them but I don't have any other photographs or drawings.

Also happy to talk over the phone if that helps.

I would also recommend painting them the same colour as the body as then the Mondeo shape blends into the background and you focus on just the lights.

Regards Roger

Such a shame the rings can't be the same (red outside, clear inside) and a little bit bigger, they'd be nice then.

You can get 98 and 94 dia,and I believe a 104 di also,these are more expensive.
as for colours you can mix and match so you can have red on the outside, clear inside.

Does anyone off the top of their head know the legal requirements for rear lights (what you need to have)

Stop x 2
Tail x 2
indicators x 2
fog x 1
reverse x 1
reflectors x ? and where?

Hi Roger have to say first class job you did there. Do the led lights sit flush with the outside of the light or are they behind a cover

I have now spoken to Graham of www.murtayasportscars.co.uk (see pics also for more pics follow the link to their facebook link - bottom of main page),he is confident he could make something to the same quality as Woodys lights.

As for choice, the outer rings could be red or silver, the diameter for their lights is 98

The mould can be plain, ready for paint, painted or done in full carbon

The lights would be full LED for all outputs

What we need is a set of the lights so we can take the mould.

Would anyone have a set they could send to me??, I will send back once done.

Cheers Paul smile

I think it would be better aesthetically if the outer lights were 112mm and the inners 98mm, similar to an R34.

It's a shame the middles can't double up. You don't really need that much space - you could probably fit indicators / reverse into the left centre and indicator / fog on the right, then put reflectors in the other two.

Hi Gadgeroonie.

The 'lights' are recessed in the aluminium tubes. They can't sit flush due to the curvature of the Mondeo unit where the indicator and stop/tail are mounted.

You can vary by how much they are recessed.

with the SVC lights you can have the outer lights as brake's or brakes and tail lights wired together.Their website is full of options and the guys on the phone are very helpful.

Which car is that, Andy?

Do you think it would be an option on a Noble? Do the "rings" come out from the rest of the lights seperately?
