Gear box oil ??
Discussion
with all this talk about gearboxes blowing up i thought i had better change the oil as part of the next service ,Noble recommend shell spirax 75w 90 which only seems to be available in 80w 90 ,don,t suppose that is going to make that much of a difference but is there anything better out there ?? are you guys using anything else that is better ?? Yes, but is it doing particularly anything useful? ... I don't think anyone really knows. I do understand the idea of doing the best for your car but sometimes it's a just gives you a false sense of security (or downforce if it's a standard splitter).btw. The yellow car is a Harrier LR9 driven and owned by Tony Soper ... www.flickr.com/photos/carcrazyrob/2662130566/.

does the harrier have a bmw engine ? it looks pretty cool
i know what you mean is it doing anything ?
i do know there are some oil additives that racing teams use that do reduce wear and friction
my fiesta went through 6 gearboxes before i managed to get something built that took the punishment
the bearings get worn due to poor lubrication and the gears loose mesh and then the box will fail
it may be time to get some proper gear sets manufactured, if there are enough of us we may be able to do it for a reasonable cost
i would prefer a longer final drive or longer 5th/6th - but that may not be what everyone else wants
