What about steering feel, I doubt it will match an Elise for that or balence, though I have only driven the Elise ..

Pros and cons to all cars, Tesla does make people bipolar as mentioned above. The good thing is we are discussing it and it drums up interest in EVs . I'm never going to buy one but I enjoy reading about people's experiences on here.
The Model 3 isn't in the same class as an Elise, nor a Caterham as mentioned previously. Why make pointless comparisons?

If you want to compare it with a car in its class (3-series, A4, C-Class) then the steering still may not be to your liking but it's certainly good enough to be enjoyable if you like a 'spirited drive'.

As for mapping, yes I could also fiddle about with the JB4 on my 335 all day but it's still not going to be as quick and responsive as my Model 3, which is why I really don't have any desire to drive it these days (much to my surprise, TBH).

You should try driving one. You might understand then what the fuss is all about.
But from my previous posts I like a small agile car with good steering feel on a B road blast over anything A to B! Same on track. I'd rather have a 1600cc caterham than a Taycan.

Perhaps I just need an original Tesla Roadster for track work and EV ! wink

No indeed, just 10-15 with a quick remap today ..... whistle
Was the remap free and does it affect the warranty?
It's 1% of the total cost of the car, if you can afford a £40-50k car you can afford a £400 remap.

Warranty wise is does affect it, though considering the number of people doing it v the number of claims by manufacturers on such I think that is a moot point.

No. I spent 2 weeks with a P85. Hated it. Overwhelming feeling of cheapness on what is an expensive car. Very dull despite the performance.
To me everyone likes different cars - some like an M3 some prefer a C63 for example and you always get a bit of banter. Tesla owners however suddenly seem to think anyone with an ICE car is inferior and get extremely defensive about their cars.
When I had the father in laws P85 other Tesla owners were horrified that I really didnt like it. Genuinely, their reaction was quite ridiculous.

Fair comments?
Of course, but I said 'the vast majority' so doesn't contradict my post as far as I am concerned. There will of course always be exceptions who have actually experienced the brand and not been impressed but they are very much in the minority based on previous posters.

I've got a foot in both camps but will say again that I find ICE drivers are far quicker to get on the defensive and make stereotypical statements from a position of zero experience. Everyone here with an EV will have owned an ICE car previously so at least has a point of reference for comparison.

Always be fanboys for either side, and they're usually very easy to spot and ignore.

Excellent summary that is probably spot on.

Er, no. That piece was written over a year ago before track mode was even fully released.

Drive one on track yourself and then let us know how it does.
Does that make it a different drive train or just a drive train that can withstand a little more track use? And let’s not forget that Tesla are taking the MS around the ring which was where this all started from
There are vids of m3p on track running flat out till they drain the battery

We've got a model 3 in this week and I had a few minutes to grab the key and have a sit in it...

I already quite wanted one but sitting in it just made things worse!

does anyone want to lend me £40k? Pretty please?

Perhaps he's on to something, the wooden dash trim..................... :-0

Now that I can understand. It's not good is it, although better than the Honda E at least.

Atari from the 1970's called, they want their design back..

NEVER EVER DISS THE HONDA E

style wise. It is brilliant inside and outside and I would buy one tomorrow if I had excess cash. It is one of those cars that fails horribly stats wise on a spreadsheet but with it's funkyness and 50-50 weight distribution and RWD might be good to drive also.

That interior knocks spots off a Model 3 from an aesthetic viewpoint....

Looking forward to the first road tests. If it does well I think this might be the first EV not to lose much money if you keep it for a few years.

Or maybe I just love Honda for past motoring feets and have white tinted glasses. This or a hybrid Jazz? scratchchin

PS I owned an Atari 2600, tank battle .... oh the fun ....

Why are you here then? Just to troll?

Incredibly daft comment anyway. Even this morning on SKY news they were reporting Tesla's profits and Honda committing to switch to PHEV/EV by 2021 as headlines.

Plenty of fuss, they're just choosing to ignore it for as long as they can in GG. smile

I like the honda interior a lot

I was not sold on the wood in the M3 and considered buying a carbon cap for it, but its starting to grow on me so that its tolerable, I am sick to death of piano black and its show every fingerprint and mark finish ...
Yep, don't know what this obsession is with piano black. It seems to have overtaken all brands and always with the same results (scratches, fingerprints)

That Honda interior is a horrible mess though. Looks like it was designed by committee.

One word on what you are talking

bks

wink

Best EV interior so far and makes Model SEXY3 look like the backend of an IKEA warehouse.

Have you been in a MK3 Prius?? Japan's finest plastic sushi boxes melted down to make the cacophonous interior. It creaks, it groans, It grates. Down a rough road I suspect rolling down the stairs in a wheelie bin is probably more refined.

Yes the interior on the M3 is absolutely splendid.

Not much wrong with the Tesla interior so long as you remember it’s American rather than German

I have no issues with it tbh

I love arguing about utterly subjective topics, such pointless fun.

I usually get loads of positive feedback everywhere I go, I've never had more people (even women) interested in any of my cars, or wanting a launch in the passenger seat (not a eufemism).

But, the other day we were at a family gathering and someone brought up the Tesla outside, genuinely interested, when someone's plus one got visibly upset and started yelling every bs argument in under a minute. From "you can't drive it anywhere further than 200km" to "Telsa is the NSDAP and the batteries are mustard gas" and "that thing is parked too close to the building and is going to kill us all".

Honestly, I haven't seen that much animosity since I parked my off roader in front of a vegan store.

I like a good argument, but most people are just repeating bs they've read online.

Serious unreality field going on here.

There has not been a car company or car model with as much fuss as tesla /model 3 since the beetle/mini.

Love or hate it, it generates headlines every day.

Exactly what I said earlier. All of us with EV's have had ICE cars before so can at least make a comparison. Most of the keyboard warriors have never even been in an EV let alone lived with one for any length of time.

yes

The new VW is dubbed (pun intended) ID.3 because they reckon it's their 3rd extremely important car (after the Beetle and the Golf).

Defender was the best 2600 game of all time you numpty . tongue out

Has the classic sound of the space ship and the gun and the warp and smart bomb . Bloody hard game to master as well, seeing someone good playing it at the old arcade was amazing.

Rob, do me a favour and get a pencil and piece of paper and grab the first 10 strangers and ask them to draw quickly the mini, the beetle and the model 3. Good luck!

Generally I notice a lot more men are interested in my cars, Doug did a video on it with his Ferrari as well :
https://youtu.be/UcvHSmF28qc

With the Tesla however, I had multiple women and other people you would not expect to have interest in any car at work, in the sport club and in the family even ask for a ride.
