^Even with those specs on a older S, at the right price its still better than most other EVs, plus access to the Tesla Superchargers.

We have left our X at T5 longstay for 10 days. Its 110 miles from our house, loaded car, sub 5 degrees, traveling quickly enough to beat Google predictions by a good 5 minutes, the return leg would be a cold start, in pretty much every EV you will need to recharge at some point.

But with access to Tesla Superchargers its so easy though, we left the house at 10am instead of 1030am. Arrived at Supercharger site at T5 hilton will on time, plugged in, by the time we had walked to reception, gone for a wee break/coffee gone back the car it we had enough charge to get home on the return leg with no worries about slowing down, pre heating losses etc.



The turn around the charger was also impressive. All the car that were charging when we arrived had left by the time were ready to go, and as we were leaving other cars were arriving.

Given the stories of Superchargers been overrun with Model 3s and Taxis it was amazingly relaxed, 10 stalls out of 16 free when we left.



Trying to do the same thing in an iPace for example would be a headache of faffing with various charging networks, worrying about chargers been blocked whilst enjoying a service station coffee/toilet.

Infact my wife found the whole experience so relaxing and the lobby of the Hilton so impresse she has mandated next time we need to have a overnight stay near Heathrow for an early flight we stay there!! So for business's these Superchargers can attract plenty of buissness.

These cars may not be reliable, the company has some bizarre operational methods, but when it comes to the EV experience Tesla is in a different league. I don't know if that more about how useless everyone else have been at developing EVs, or Tesla been innovative/leaders.

Good to read gangzoom. I do think that it would have been better to be able to destination charge while you were away though like you could as Oslo airport. Its might take a while for us to get to that situation though smash

That's a really good point, and for every other EV onsale today I would say it's true. But as long as you can build in some 30min of rest/charging time into a long trip in a Tesla its already sorted. With a budget of £30k a used Model S is in that respect still hard to ignore compared to any other £30K EV.

We’ve just passed 140k miles in our 2014 Model S 85, which we have owned from new.

The car has been very reliable, no issues at all. The one problem we’ve had is with a couple of door handles not presenting. Nothing major.

It passed the first MOT without issue. For the last MOT it needed a driver’s side steering drop link. That’s it.

I spec’d coils, not air suspension. Mainly because a friend had just had a bill for several thousand when the air suspension went wrong on his Lexus.

Every time I drive it, I am impressed with how well it goes. It does not drive like a car that’s done 140k. Ride quality is still very good and there is no drop in performance. The battery still charges to over 200 miles (I think about 217 is when it’s full). It’s never charged much over 220-230 so that’s an acceptable loss to me. We use the Superchargers almost daily.

We also have a 2018 Model X 100D with about 40k miles on it, which we also bought new. Again we have had zero problems with it. Last year it took us to the South of France and back. Twice. It’s been very reliable and I find the revised seats much more comfortable than the ones in the S.

Tesla aren’t perfect by any means. But my experience with these two cars has been very positive.

Yes, stay far away from those.

Oh I forgot to mention by that time many have been "nerfed" for charging so you can't supercharge at full speed either. It's not that bad but just another thing to think of.

If you do get one another common fault on cars that old is that he screen goes yellow around the edges. Out of warranty you can either live with it or it's very expensive to fix.

The screen yellowing occured when the cars were new, unless the owner was lazy or didn't care it should have been sorted.

Current Tesla approach is to use a UV light tool which cures the glue that goes yellow. No ideal how long the repair works for, our was done about 7k miles ago and the yellowing hasn't reappeared.
