“it only does 5K a year” is the key point.

An EV, generally speaking, makes more sense if you are doing more than very low mileage as, obviously, the higher lease / purchase cost is more easily offset by the lower fuel costs if you have a high annual mileage.

I agree. Wait until everyone tries to charge them at the same time....

It's going to be mental.
What do you mean? Are you referring to this thread?
How long have we got ??
Apologies, I wasn't clear - I mean the demand on Tesla chargers at service stations is going to be very high. I've seen queues forming at South Mimms already, so once there is a significant increase in M3's as expected...

Info is here:

It doesn't mention VAT, but you can claim it back (I'm a chartered accountant).
Are we talking claiming the VAT back on the vehicle or charge point?

My accountant told me if the vehicle was used for social, domestic and pleasure, we couldn’t claim VAT back?

I'd be amazed if Tesla can keep up with the BIK demand, the NHS are offering the Performance as a car at a crazy low price. I'd expect the delays to be 10+ months by March.
My figures may be wrong but I can see why the NHS organisations are able to offer what seems like cheap deals up front.

A P Model 3 is a gross annual salary reduction of about £1000/month.

This translates to £570 yearly reduction in pension pay out for the NHS.

The NHS pension has inflation linked growth, call it 3%.

Over 20 years therefore, based on 3% growth per year, that translates to a total reduction of £15k in pension pay out for the NHS per year of deal, or around £45k for a 3 year lease deal.

In addition the employee has paid out £18kish in present day cash in rental costs over the term. So in effect when you take into account pension pay out savings for the NHS and rental income, after just 3 years the NHS/rental company have absorbed the initial purchases cost of the car! So they can now sell the car at auction after 3 years and what ever they get back is pure profit.

Add in NI reduction costs for the NHS organisation, and its quite obvious why now NHS organisations are so keen to push salary sacrifice schemes!!

My figures might be wrong, and trying to visualise money now by taking into future inflation may not be correct, but I was always taught there is no such thing as a free lunch, and these cheap NHS deals certainly are not a free lunch for employees they first appear to be.

I have a 2016 90D on loan whilst mines having the agreed paintwork sorted and the grindy steering looked at

Its pretty much what you would expect, a big wafty competent fast but dull car just like the iPace. What has suprised me is there is less room for the driver than in the M3, I cant get comfortable in it. Rear visibility is about as bad as the M3. Window controls are infront of part of the door trim that sticks out making reaching a bit them awkward.

The ipad has horrible backlight bleed, the screen in the 3 is much higher quality. Its nice to have a a proper binnacle again.

The two best things: you can allocate temp and fan speed to the right steering wheel dial (implement this please Ol' Musky) and the wipers have a proper speed controller on the end of the indicator stork. How i miss thee.

In summary I wouldn't swap my M3 for one, not even the performance.

I have a 69 plate Performance and have been loaned a 17 plate Model S and 65 plate Model S while warranty works were undertaken to my car. They felt like totally different cars, with my car being a huge step up in build quality.

If I'd have test driven an younger OLDER Model S I wouldn't have purchased my Performance.

that's a good point, within a mile of my M3 test drive I knew I wanted one, I probably would have bought the iPace if i had driven the S

Sorry, typed my response while listening to muzak on hold on the phone. What I meant to type was: if I'd have driven an older Model S I probably wouldn't have placed an order for a new MS such was the unimpressive build quality (of the older cars).

The Model 3 is a great little car, but for me it's no comparison to the Raven MS and X and the Performance version of the Model 3 compared to the Model S is quite stark: the S is a much faster car (though, this may change if the Model 3 gets the 100KW battery and Ludicrous+ option).

I think this is the older S P100D vs the Model 3 Performance: https://youtu.be/PyjygzQs4p8?t=140

Same here, had a S90D 2017 loaner. Felt ancient in some ways, and wouldn't swap it for the 3. Though does make me worried what impact the Y will have on residuals. 2 years is a long time apparently.

OK - need to place an order. Drove the M3P yesterday and it's 90% as quick as the S which I had my heart set on. I just can't justify the extra cost for that 10%!

So....I assume (if I want solid black with white leather) the white interior is the only option I need?

And just a case of picking the best deal on leasing.com? Not much more to it?

Need to get an order in before the BIK market kicks off.

pretty much it - yes

the white leather looks great but careful if you wear dark jeans

mine came from Leaseplan but I used Matt at Drrive Electric (specialist EV broker)...less hassle / better service and tend to know about any in stock vehicles or special deals

Whatever you decide, don't forget to order through a referral link for those free miles!

Personally, I justified the S for myself. But mainly for practicality. If the 3 was big enough for me, I would have bought it. It's 90% of the car for 60% of the money.

It's a tough one - The S would let the dogs go in the boot. The 3 won't. But I can't put a tow bar on an S so I'd need my other car to have that for carrying motorbike trailer/MTB rack, kayaks etc. So if the 2nd car is going to be a load lugger I may as well use that for the dogs and get the 3. Pity the 3 isn't a hatch.

Looks like we'll end up with a 3 and then a cheap older cash bought SUV of some sort. Wife wants a Suzuki Jimmny!!!!.....doing all I can to stop that nonsense smile
