45k is ridiculous value now though if you look at the competition. That's a mildly equipped ID4...
Can't you get discounts off VW et al if you're at the dealer, etc? Tesla's prices are very much "it is what it is" (until it isn't)

Yes and VW have just put their prices up!!

£37k ID4 base spec, 52kw battery, 220 miles range has now increased to £38.9k

The bigger battery (330 miles) ID4 base spec is £44.6k which is basically the same price as a MY SR now (280 miles) and while the MY SR has less range on paper, it can be charged to 100% all the time with no issues, plus it has a lot more passenger and boot space, and more spec. ID4 is much better looking though IMO
Isn't one of the issues with the ID4 a glitchy ICE system? Can't look at one (or siblings) until that is fully resolved

For my edification, when "isn't it"?

Now, they've decided to cut all their prices, or before xmas when they had a load to shift so did a fire sale to get rid.

I've just sent off an email to my broker (MY LR in blue). It'll be interesting to see what happens.

if it’s has to be a “new order” and i get stung with higher interest rates will make it more expensive perhaps,

But the price is still the price? I thought that was the point. They don't do a "maybe 12% if you walk into the showroom" type deal. They just advertise the adjusted price on their website.

When you pick the equivalent, performance/range you're into a performance pro, with a few options to match the Tesla and it's in the £50-51k region

Was in the service center today btw (DRL in light cluster defect, warranty), and a woman who had a Y on order heard she got 6k back, without inquiry.
So they are giving the difference back to people who already agree at a different price?

Well they still need to shift the volume I guess.

I was so close to pressing the buy-it button and taking delivery of a Dec car with the 6000miles of supercharging deal. That would have royally hacked me off and I had just watched my car shed £8k.

They've always matched priced drops with outstanding orders, just like they've always honoured the old prices if they go up. Leaving the price drop until when they did meant anybody taking delivery in 2022, even on the last day of the year, weren't eligble for their 14 day returns policy.

I have some sympathy as you can;t win with price drops, there will always be someone who was the day before and doesn't qualify, even if they go back and refund for people taking delivery 2 weeks ago, or a month ago., any cut off is a cut off.

Searches on leasing.com up by 1043% this morning for Model Y and 430% for Model 3. So it’s having the desired effect.

Neighbour text me to say about to hit ‘buy’ on a MY because they are ‘so cheap’ now. Issue with EV’s is the lack of understanding and potential to buy the wrong car by going with the crowd. A quick reality check of his weekly miles (sales) and single journey miles and exposure to charging network costs etc soon got a re think.

It's still amazing how many adults can be convinced that something is cheap just in the grounds that it has become 10% less expensive. It's a really fascinating part of how consumerism works and how Tesla get their target market very well.

Often think that when I see people buying like mad in any “sale”. Overpriced stuff often being sold at a slightly more sensible price.

Tesla price cuts are welcome but as you say, they’re still not exactly “cheap”. How much will a nearly new one be in 3-12 months, though?

I guess that depends on where new prices are then? There's the usual stuff going around on social media about how one must seize this price right now as Tesla will be putting prices back up next week but that's non factual guff, probably by desperate stock holders. It would be a great sign if these discounts soaked up all the supply and more and prices went back up but those higher prices really were just cashing in on the last of the free money from Covid and what prices do going forward is much more of a coin toss.

The Y has got tremendous margins and is probably the best product in their line up but it could shed a lot more money and still not be cheap by any metric other than the shoppers' delusion method.

I don’t think there’s much hope for EV residuals or new prices staying strong over the next several years. Competition and economies of scale are all increasing vastly.

It won’t be that long before they’re at parity with ICE, and I dare say they’ll then become the cheaper and dominant option.

I doubt prices will increase again - BYD outselling Tesla in BEV category 2:1 in 2022 and hence Tesla demand collapsed. They had to address this.
