New Tesla Pickup Truck
Discussion
So this (or whatever it ends up being) isn't going to be around until 2023/4? That just seems like enough time for Ford and GMC (and the rest) to get their s
t together with Electric versions of what they have now which is probably what the market wants.
I kind of like that they've gone with building a DeLorean Pick-Up but can't see the final version looking anything like that.
I'm also glad I live somewhere that doesn't need bullet proof glass.

The finished thing won't be like this. The shape won't pass safety rules and it hasn't got any mirrors/cameras.
It looks like they rushed a prototype out just to show something, because several other companies have announced electric pick-ups that will be stealing their sales if they don't give people something to lust after.
It's the same "autonomy day" BS again.

It’s certainly a bold design, but with a bit of tweaking I think it could look great.
I think the EV pickup is a very difficult thing to do, the traditional pickup has such terrible aerodynamics that cause huge problems.
To get any decent range it means you need to use a huge battery, but this means it’s very expensive, that means it’s very heavy therefore reducing the payload and you can’t just keep making the battery bigger as it is going to start to make charging times too long.
I love the Rivian but I think range and charging time are going to be its main drawbacks.
If it takes such a radical design just to get to 250 miles.....

There's a great alternative.
It cost a couple of hundred a month to 'own' and you have to add some incredibly energy dense juice that smells a bit but once you've done that it just goes for 500 miles until you need to add more. It takes about 5 mins if you dawdle.
What are the odds we don't see a variation of this before 2025? 50:50?

I like it. But then I like "visions of the future circa 1984". The problem for this is that most other people don't.
I mean really this is basically like looking back in time. To time when we thought there'd be flying cars by now.
They must have something up their sleeves re batteries if that is the target price as well. It's going to need a significantly bigger pack to achieve the specs than what that money today will get you today in a model 3. I'm gonna put my £1 in now and say it won't be that price when it launches...just like the $35k M3 isn't really a thing (as in they seem to actively discourage you from getting one even though it does technically exist. Doesn't it?).

In SA and the USA bakkies/pick-ups are extremely popular and I can certainly see this being a success there, the UK is more into it's Estates, which I don't like one bit.
I quite like the mentalistness of the whole thing. I'd argue the above statement is part of the it's downfall here, I am very doubtful that the good old boys who love a pick up (and I agree there is a huge market) aren't the guy's who'll want something which looks like it's straight out of Bladerunner.yonex said:
Durable, Tesla?
Lol! Well, that's the test. Not appearances.Honestly this is the first Tesla that has actually piqued my interest. Very practical but performant.
