Just had a dealer tell me they are going to do a full ENGINE service and MOT for their £199 admin charge.

Well its not got an engine and its not due its first MOT till December.

Ah... yes but but but we offer 6 months warranty and break down cover.

Erm ok... but its under warranty / roadside from tesla till 2025! Sigh.

Deposit down on a 71 plate LR. Collecting tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Just one final question, I have a Tesla account and I have the app.

When I go to collect I assume the seller needs to give me "ownership" of the car in the app?

Thanks all, got her home safe and sound smile

The tech is taking some getting used too but I think in a week or two it will be second nature.
I am looking forward to giving it a good detail and getting out on a nice country road.

It was very enjoyable being in a traffic jam on the M6 just letting the car do the driving.

My arse-o-dyno (highly calibrated) so far thinks its not quite as fast as the iPace, but very close.
I have yet to really give it the beans from standstill though so I reserve the right to change my mind!

I now have the joyous process of trying to explain how it all works to my wife who is about as technologically skilled as a house brick.

smile

Looking at same car/similar budget OP.

Did you manage to get one within budget? What sort of mileage? Did you end up buying from Tesla?

Thank you and hope you’re getting on well with it.
I paid £27k as a private purchase for a December 2022 Long Range.

It has just done 30k miles.

I did not buy from Tesla. The same car from Tesla is 3 to 4k more plus a 4 to 6 week wait for it.

Yep going good so far.

I think my only comment would be, having now had a look at a lot of these cars - is be careful for condition.
Scrapes on the paint, marks on the inside, worn steering wheel, kerbed wheels.

IME, a lot of Tesla owners are not "car people" and just hammer the sh*t out of them. Fill them with kids and dogs and if you are lucky they run it through a car wash every 6 months.

I saw a lot of very ratty 2 year old cars.

Mine has 2 badly kerbed wheels and a couple of minor scrapes on the front bumper.

I think its par for the course. You can of course find ones in good condition but its a bit of a lottery.

I very nearly bought one from a car supermarket for 28995 with 28k on the clock. It was immaculate (it had clearly been prepped well).

But for 2000 I can get the wheels sorted and the front bumper repaired (probably wont bother tbh) and still be 1500 up.

HTH

Yeah there are defo some people who are enthusiasts. But I would say the majority are not car people, they are just technology types.

Like you say wife / kids treat it like a play thing and before you know it there is a lot of wear and tear on it.

Its just something to be mindful of when looking at used.

I am into my detailing and I am already starting to itch over a few things and its been 4 days LOL..

First job will be to sort those wheels. I cant deal with that!

Yep so what we did

Before collection

I create a tesla account (I already had one as I had an M3 on order when they first came out)
I download the app. Open it and check it loads etc.

On collection

In the car go to Service > Factory Reset (the owner will need to know their password)
Wait for the reset to go through, takes a few minutes.

Then.

Owner then opens app. Manage products > Remove > Get Started > Follow instructions
(it will ask for new owner name, email address)
Submit this.
Seller will then get an email with a code. They put this code in on the app.

Wait 60 seconds.
Open your app.
The car should be showing.

Go to your tesla account by going directly to the tesla website on a browser and log into account.
On the dashboard select "payment method" and add your card.

You are then set up as the new owner and will have access to super charging.

The whole process takes about 10 minutes and most of that is waiting for the factory reset!
The actual handover in the app takes maybe 2 minutes.

Check there are 2 key cards too - they are easy to misplace! They will work if you cant get the app to work but tbh I would not accept the car until you have full control in the app.

Oh if its a dealer they will have probably already done the factory reset btw - just check before you do anything.

I am sure they will know the process.

Well ran into my first problem. Out today with the wife driving (she is technologically cursed I swear!) the car suddenly decided "phone key not in car".
Hm. Then the radio turned off and would not come back on. Got home. Did a 2 button "reset" and the radio and phone now ok. Weird.

Then as I got out of the car I noticed 1 headlamp was dead. FFS.

So, service booked for next week. Anyone know if you can request a ranger or do you have to go to main dealer? Its a 40 mile round trip.

Plus I need to get a taxi there and back I guess. Or will they give me a courtesy car?

I am using the phone rather than the card. It lost connection to the phone for some reason, but at the same time the radio went off and would not find any channels. I wonder if its a module playing up maybe that controls both? A radio module perhaps.

Anyway, they confirmed the appointment so I guess I am going to the SC.

I have asked about a loaner. Will see what happens.

Cheers.

I just had a look on the forums and it seems that head light replacements (they are not serviceable items!) are generally done at the SC as they need to set it up. Ah well.

Had a bit of a play with the car yesterday in some NSLs.
Its defo quick. From a stand still it does, IMO, not feel as quick as the iPace.
I think from 0-40 the ipace has the legs.

But over 40 the LR feels very punchy and muscular. It feels like its torque limited below about 30.

I expect thats what they have done to give acceleration boost option.

You do have to be very careful of speeds, you can hit 80+ quite easily if you are already 40-50.

Overall, its fast enough for me. Given the state of the roads and the nature of traffic these days its not really possible to use the performance if you live in a city anyway and of course it eats the range.

Headlamp replaced under warranty today, did it whilst I waited.
£1400 inc labour ouch. Bit irritating that you cant talk to anyone, the drop off pick up was smooth enough but there were a couple of things I wanted to ask about. anyway, sorted now.
