Split fold rear seats ;-) that’s what I’ve told the Mrs anyway!
From what I’ve read the boot is smaller than my Fiat 500’s!!

Being up north, it will be a while before we get a 'static' display car. One of my concerns is the seating position, I am 6' 2'', so if you see any tall persons milling about or maybe you are around that height, possibly have a look to see how they fit?
Only 6' I am afraid but will feedback on seating position, head room, pedals etc
I’m interested in this too...must admit I’m really not understanding the strange selection of dealers they’re previewing it at? A car derived from rally heritage, gets previewed nowhere near any rally hotspots in the UK??

As for the car, I’m really keen as see it possibly as a successor to the Cosworth my late dad had in the 90’s, however it’s striking me as too small for my needs...without seeing one I’m reluctant to commit.

I have always regretted not buying a Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TR-XX R4 when they were decent, but I was a kid.

I'm not a kid anymore, I'm not going to miss it again. Deposit paid. beer

I noticed that too, and it one of the first things I checked...
I believe 'Gross Weight' is the combined weight of the vehicle, all its passengers and cargo, so the total weight.

Kerb weight (without driver) is 1,280kg, as dislayed when the GR Yaris was promoted in Germany:

I would expect Kerb Weight to include all fluids and, at least, half a tank of fuel, or that is my experience with other marques.

Edited by Lankan on Wednesday 15th July 17:15
DIN weight is all fluids and 90% full (don't ask why 90%) tank but no driver - so I expect that is the 1280kg. EU weight is that +75kg for the driver.

I have mixed feelings about the circuit pack. Can't really see it as a circuit car so wouldn't want the stiffer suspension - but the LSDs and P4S tyres look attractive. Academic in my case as I won't be ordering one of the first cars anyway, so I'll have plenty of chance to see if they live up to the hype.

The UK dealers were offered the chance, some said yes, some didn’t.

The time is getting close that we'll see the cars and make our final decisions.

For me this will probably be my last car purchase for my daily car.

After all, in 3/5 years time you just wont be able to buy a car like this. Maybe sooner.

So what are other people comparing the Yaris to for a spend of 30 to 35K??

My first thought is a 370z Nismo discounted from 40k down to just over 30k. Bit thirsty for a daily driver I'm thinking.

Megane RS Trophy 300bhp

Don't think I could live with the style of the Civic but it has to be a contender.

Who's tried the Hyundai I30 N performance?

Last in my thoughts is a slightly used manual Golf R which I know I like. A friends car which he'll give me first refusal on.

Not all of the above are 4wd but still decent cars.

Anyone got any others they're comparing to?

I had a 370Z for a few years, not the Nismo one but there isn’t all that much difference really. It has better economy than you might think, I averaged high 20s although on track it drops into single digits.

It’s a very different type of car though. Not really a sports car but more like a cross between a GT and a muscle car. It’s not really a B road scratcher, more an A road cruiser.

If you are planning on tracking it then you’ll need an aftermarket oil cooler otherwise temperatures go into the red after a couple of laps too.

JCW mini (not GP) was on my list but do not get on with Mini seats - hence the need for a test drive before committing to the Yaris

The Civic is a good shout - remember you can get one without the lairy wing now if you don't like to be too shouty... but its a bit bigger (isn't it?)

But there's really not too much around for drivers in the new small hatch market at the moment - some fast stuff but not necessarily good drives so I'll probably go second hand if the Yaris doesn't tick the boxes....

I was going to say Civic too - great car now they've given the option of getting rid of most of the aero addenda. Bigger - certainly longer and heavier - but actually narrower. The GR is over 1.8 wide - wider than an Alpine or Cayman for example.

I cancelled my GR order last week in favour of the 2020 Mini GP. Picking that up soon!

Please do an update for us when you've had it a bit.

One locally and its look a fabulous thing; like most cars better in the flesh than the artificially stanced photos; be interesting on your thoughts too, just to see how much fuss the press are making re the B road compliance...

Thanks for that.

I've never driven one, but always liked the look of them.

I think they're just a bit too big for a daily, like you say between a GT and muscle car.

But a brand new one for just over 30k got me thinking.

Great snoop round at Inchcape Guildford today (many thanks Sam and great to meet another forum contributor too). I can report as follows:

Looks: Purposeful, stocky, well screwed together and with some excellent touches of carbon fibre and bespoke finishes.

Interior: Decent quality (compares to a Scooby STI I had), Head height at 6' was 4 inches room above my head in the drivers seat, boot and rear space tight but as expected. spec' looked fine and have reiterated in my written feedback that parking sensors and heated seats should be either standard or an option.

Gear change: Whilst not running was short throw and precise.

Driving: Anecdotal feedback from Sam was that it was very quick on the pick up, fast through the gears and less firm than his S3 but very sure footed.

Have a load of pics but can't work out how to upload more than 1, any help appreciated

Don’t worry there are a few buggy options that fold down to very little - worth the investment if it’s a deciding factor in getting one of these awesome little cars!!
