Good to meet you too.

Agree with all that you've said. The interior was nicely put together, all the touchpoints feel high quality.

Gearbox feels substantial with a short precise throw. Seats were comfortable, if a little higher than I'd like, but the position of all the controls felt natural, tilt and slide steering wheel helps here.

The proportions of the car are much better in the flesh than in pictures, looks shorter and wider in the flesh. The rear arches don't look so outsized, and I love the low roofline.

Overall, very impressed. Looking forward to an actual drive of the thing.

Couple of pics using https://imgbb.com/:-

And one of the most important pics

I could easily get a finger between the caliper and the wheel. I think a 17 might actually fit!

Are there likely any chavvy sticker options, a-la TCR Golf? I think this might just suit that sort of thing...

The only options now are circuit pack and the colours.

I'd been thinking along the lines of the Celica or Corolla WRC livery...

Sam, am I right in thinking the rear seats fold properly flat? If they do are there any tie down / lashing points in the back?

If its going to be a daily driver for me I need to get the dog cage in the back and ideally need to strap it down.

They do fold flat, but I didn't notice any tie down points. That's not to say they weren't there, I was trying to figure out if my usual suitcase would fit without folding the seats down. It's pretty tiny back there.

Just got back from having a look at the car in Guildford. Some impressions:

The car looks shorter and wider than I was expecting. The roofline looks very dramatic from the rear, you don't really get just how much it drops down from the photos. The rear arches actually look really good; I was concerned they'd look over-surfaced but they don't in the flesh. It looks amazing in the base white colour set against all the black of the grille, spoiler, mirrors, etc. I have my preorder in for pearl white but I'm going to change to the base white instead. It'll look more purposeful, I'll save myself a grand, and scratch/stonechip repair will be way cheaper than any of the fancy paints.

Front seats were comfortable and the interior seems good quality and well laid out with nice clear dials. Steering wheel has good adjustability for rake and reach so I could get in a perfect driving position with arms bent 90 degrees at the elbows. Pedals were reasonably well placed for heel & toe although a little closer probably wouldn't hurt. Not a lot of headroom in the front; I'm 170cm and there was less than a hand's breadth from the top of my head to the roof so tall people might struggle unless you can lower the seat somehow.

Rear seats matter to me as I have an almost 4 year old kid. Getting in/out isn't too bad (the passenger seat slides forwards, but not the drivers) and there was decent enough leg room with the seat in my driving position, but again I don't know how much there would be with a tall person driving. In terms of rear headroom I could not sit straight up in the back so I couldn't sit there for more than a few minute journey; my girlfriend is 167cm and she could *just* sit straight up in the back though her head did touch the roof. Still, it's should be OK for kids up to about 12. And there's ISOFIX including top tether points.

The boot is ridiculously small. I'd seen the 141L capacity signs before but even then I was surprised when I had a look. You'd get maybe one good sized holiday bag in there and a couple of small bits of hand luggage. If you're thinking about buggies or even balance bikes then forget it, there's just no way that's happening.

Overall it's better looking than I was expecting from the photos, but it's more compromised then I was expecting as I thought somebody my height would be able to sit in the back even if tall people couldn't, and the boot is really really tiny. Still going to keep the preorder.

The seat is quite high at the lowest setting. Hard to judge until out on the roads.

Inchcape Guildford exists in a mirror dimension.

I'm the wrong person to be able to judge this as my current car is a Defender... It's lower than that :-D

Is it only Guildford that has a car to look at or is there one nearer to MK to see in the flesh?

Thanks for posting the pics...

I had my heart set on red but seeing the plain white it also looks really good...though choice.

Can't wait for a go in one.

Those rear arches look like stone magnets. They are going to need some PPF to stop the paintwork from getting peppered.

It is too high, frustratingly so as there’s loads of room under the seat. Incredible that Toyota could get something so basic so wrong, but I guess the average Japanese race/development driver is jockey sized.

Sam reckoned he had quite a lot of feedback to the same effect from would be customers, and that Toyota would change it for production. I’m not so sure, the seat rail mounts look like they’re mounted onto the floorpan and to change it would be a major effort
As it is, I could *just* get a decent driving position, so I’ve placed an order.

Shame, the seating position / seats in a drivers car is IMO, one of the most important components,
Hopefully they put that right.

Does the interior look as 90’s in the flesh as it does in the pictures?
Not a point that really matters if it drives well, but boy does it look dated.

Is it something that's affected by the regulations these days? A lot of manufacturers seem to have problems with the seating position being too high for sportier models based on more modest stock.

Did people get a sit in it in Guildford??! I was there at 9am and there was a strict no touch policy!

I think if I remove the buggy wheels and parcel shelf il get mine in, failing that back seats down jobby. Regardless there’s nothing on the market close to this, or probably will be again.

Pre ordered back in March in base white with circuit pack so was good to see it in the flesh! Shame about the Uk models not having intercooler spray if that’s true!! Looking forward to road test in Oct-time.

First time poster, long time lurker. Having followed this car and the thread since the announcement by Toyota and having put myself down for a pearl white circuit pack pre-order I felt it was worth the 3hr round trip today to Inchcape.

Firstly credit where it's due the dealership was clean and the staff were friendly. The car was wiped down inside between views and social distancing etc was all good. I've always been impressed with Toyota dealerships & staff and this trip was no different.

The car:
The looks are very striking, I agree the sloping roofline is more dramatic than I realised from the photos/videos I've seen. However I still love the look of this thing. The styling just does it for me. The front of this car I was always happy with but I wasn't sure about the rear, however in the metal it looks good. I knew it was going to be wide but it really is a very short/wide car in terms of it's ratios. It certainly looks built for rallying.

Body panels: The weight saving is very evident if you pop the bonnet/hatch or press the door panels. I was expecting light but it was very light (compared to "standard" cars I've experienced).

Wheels: The circuit pack wheels were on the car and they look great. The red calipers really stand out I imagine the non-circuit pack non-red look with 15 spoke wheels is not going to have the same effect.

The gear stick throw felt good. Solid and not too long.

This was a pre-production model so not the finished article but even so the intercooler water spray I've seen in the Japanese videos of this car was missing. There's a hole in the boot where the tank should be and no button within the cabin. I assume this is coming to the UK on the final models but I expected to see it on the car.

Boot: It's small but for light trips I'm sure it'll suffice. I can't imagine this is a deal breaker for many. The load lip was flat for those who've asked.

My pre-order is still remaining and I'll reserve final judgement until the test drive but there were 2 things that have raised a few thinking points for me.

Headroom: As somebody who's 6'2" the pre-production model has given me some concern. Leg room is fine but the seat position is high, even in the lowest position. Initially my head was hitting the roof. I did manage to recline the seat and get to a position with some headroom but then my arm was further from the gearstick than I'd like. I can't buy a car I can't sit in so this is something of a concern. The seats themselves are comfy. Another thing to note for tall drivers in the position I was finally comfortable there was almost zero leg room behind me. Not an issue personally I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've had people in the back of my ST but something to bear in mind.

Pedal Position: I put this on my feedback form and another visitor at the time also commented on this. For reference I'm size 10/11 and heel/toe is very easy for me in my Mk7 Fiesta ST. The brake and accelerator in the GRY are too far apart to heel toe comfortably. To get enough of my foot on the brake to get solid pressure the rest of my foot clears the accelerator. My right foot had to be at such an angle and then my right heel was scraping on the centre column area (perhaps RHD this won't be a problem) but I've read there will be an auto blip function but as this is aimed at being a driving enthusiasts' car I'm surprised at the pedal spacing.

Width & garaging the car:
If I get this it'll be garaged and so I measured the width & mirrors. Width is as spec'd at 1805mm. The mirrors are 250mm but around half of this is within the width of the car so you're looking at a width with mirrors of around 2055mm. The mirrors do fold in. I can fit this into my garage but I'll probably have to climb out of the car through the boot!
