Toyota GB said:
The GR Yaris is subject to a ‘Safety Check’ every six months. As of 2022, this costs £50, unless it coincides with the car’s service, in which case there’s no extra cost.

This would be part of the warranty T&C's and may affect your warranty if the safety check is not completed.
That's a copy and paste of an email received from Toyota last week.
Really? That's the scam of the century!

Yes has isofix in the back but you would likely need to load the seat in from the boot, rear access for sorting children is restricted. And yes selectable passenger airbag.
I got our Cybex in through the passenger door. I've since moved it behind the driver seat (LHD) as my wife's knees were hitting the glove box laugh

That is dedication how do you get in the back holding a baby and strap them in without serious rib and spine damage lol
Not test drove a GR yet, my dealers new demonstrator has just arrived so waiting and too lazy to travel a far. My little one should be in an up right seat soon so should be much easier. However its based on the test drive.

They have a new demonstrator in? Assuming it’s an old one they share around the group?

It's ridiculous that people are getting different (wrong?) answers from the same sources. I've gone back to Toyota again including the responses above. See what comes back this time.

One option would be to buy the service plan with the safety checks included but just don't have them done if they're not required and get the money refunded at the end.

Noone I've spoken to is aware of the price increases posted previously.

I guess the question is why are dealers getting new demonstrators in if they aren’t making/ selling anymore new cars.

My guess is that they are registering a cancelled order to themselves, and putting it on their demo funding.

They can then sell their existing demo, which they have been writing down for quite some time, and make a decent margin on it.

I went into the dealer yesterday to ask about the service plan...three services £905.

From them a stand alone intermediate service cost £230 ( £190 on my Toyota ), a full service £420 (£375 on my Toyota )

Also I asked about oil...the dealer said they use Castrol Magnatec 0w20 which is this spec (API SN ILSAC GF-5) its the wrong oil, I since found out the GR Yaris oil spec is 0w20 (API SP) or (API SN Plus ISLAC GF6)

They did say I could supply my own oil but not if I took out the service plan.

So I won't be buying the service plan or having the "Safety Checks" carried out...what a rip off.

After my previous saga in January...

[ This is actually the TLDR version laugh ]

1. I wanted an unregistered CP car - preferably in black. By the time I managed to test drive one, you couldn't order them.

Dec 2021 (all on the same day...):

2. PH member gave me a heads up that dealership A had a cancelled red CP. By the time we'd exchanged a few emails with the details (a couple of hours), and rung the dealership, the car had sold.

3. Later that day another PH member indicated that dealership B had a cancelled white CP. Rang them up, paid a deposit and was feeling quite chuffed.

4. Half an hour after I'd paid a deposit, dealership A calls back and say they have a cancelled black CP - my first choice. However, to save the faff / agro, I stuck with the car from dealership B.

Jan 2022:

5. Dealership B calls me and mentions there's been a mistake, and what they thought was a CP car, was a 'vanilla' car. This was a deal breaker for me.

They were very apologetic, and offered to refund the deposit, as they felt it was unlikely they'd get another cancellation. I asked them to keep hold of the deposit and see how it plays out.

March 2022:

6. Allegedly, they obtained a red car CP in September. At this time, comms was through email, and I didn't follow up - don't count your chickens, etc.

This week:

7. "Your car's landed, and can be picked up next week"

...the dealership came through and managed to get me a cancelled red CP, which has just landed, and I'll be collecting early August party

Great news for you and it proves the talk that dealers are no longer allowed to give out cancelled orders is wide of the mark.

The talk is correct. What it proves is that some dealers are not following Toyota UK’s direction that cancelled orders are to be returned to them.

There was talk of the dealership getting a fine to change the name on the order sheet.

Can’t see that being the case

My understanding / reading between the lines is that dealerships are allowed x amount of changes before getting a telling off / fine.

If you paid the deposit last year they are probably in the clear. The rule came into effect some time early this year. I picked up a cancelled order last nov, collecting week after next

Bugger, been away on holiday, so left a reminder to sort out a service plan tonight, even checked it this morning to make sure the prices were still at the old levels. Just gone on to buy it and the prices have already gone up. Should have just done it this morning...

Awesome news!!

Out of interest what are the first two letters of your order number? I'm JW and the dealer says Sept collection when they called me last week - yet My Toyota app doesnt even say my car is in build as yet? So feels September is very optimistic!

They updated the prices yesterday afternoon, so they'd be live on the system to be effective from this morning. The system remembers when you got a quote so if you got a quote yesterday, you could ask Toyota to honour their pricing from the time, which should have been the old prices, not the new ones?

I'm still awaiting their response on the safety checks so I've had to include them in my service plan.

Rang up my dealer (Steven Eagell Milton Keynes) this afternoon and enquired if it was still possible to get one at the old prices and he said that their system still hasn't picked up the new prices, so managed to get a 36 month one sorted, he said he didn't have the option of taking the safety checks off, but I wasn't going to push him on that and I was happy enough to save a few quid.
