Sorry defensive about what? The only thing myself and others have been defensive about is you spamming us about the fact you’re so rich you can’t or won’t pay for a second hand car at today’s prices. We’ve said numerous times none of us care. What would be nice and what we keep trying to do is get on topic about talking about the car rather than your constant drivel about depreciation.
I'm not spamming anyone. I was just highlighting the fact that used GRY values now seem to finally be taking a tumble, which is good news surely for those looking to buy one? That is on topic as far as I'm concerned as this is the GRY thread.

You had no need to respond to my comments, but you chose to do so. And then you got all pissy and defensive when my reply (highlighting well established market trends/data) was not to your liking.

Honestly rolleyes

Cars are for driving not saving money.
With good financial decision making, investment and not over-paying for things you want you can have both nice cars and money. The two are not mutually exclusive. Unless of course you are a fan of bunging stuff you can't otherwise couldn't afford onto the monthlies or the never-never.

I think it may have been a post I made you are referring to.

The dinitrol treatment I have been quoted for £600 includes:

Removal of arch liners and under trays and fully steam cleaned underside

Fully dried off and then masked up

Application of 3 different clear waxes
Dinitrol clear high performance wax
Dinitrol clear 4010 corroheat
Dinitrol clear 1000 cavity wax injection

Plus 24 hours curing time. I've been advised the full process can take upto 4-5 days
It was a post where a figure closer to £1k caught my attention - may have not been yours.

I'll try and find out what exactly was applied to mine and report back, but he had the car for 3 days during a quiet (for him) time.

The place I used wasn't a specialist centre for corrosion protection per se, but a motorsports specialist who looks after all sorts of older / eclectic cars that love to rust for fun.

The gen 2 has had it's suspension firmed up a bit more to make it more track friendly. Which, one would assume, would make it more unfriendly for daily road use and especially for long journeys.
Thank you.

Having read the press release, and looked at (skimmed through) the Carwow videos (sorry, can't stand Mat Watson), it seems very much an evolution of the original car. There's certainly nothing in there that would make me really want to swap keys for the new car - apart from being able to pick the colour laugh - had my heart set on a black car, but ended up with a red cancelled order (TLDR version).

Perhaps a set of Ohlins and a remap if I get bored of my OG CP.

Does anyone know if they've changed the really niggly bits? IE remember the state of lane assist, stop start and drive mode (in that order).

Seats not returning to their original position after folding, the lack of a boot light, nowhere to put the "key", and the infotainment are also annoying in what is my primary vehicle, but I can live with these. The horn's a joke too, but easily resolved.

Curious if the gen 2 has a double-din unit, that could be swapped out for something aftermarket.

How does your generic "well established market trends/data" hypothesis stack up in comparison to similar models? For example, something like a Focus RS.

If anything the PITA automated stuff will be worse on the GR2 because all new cars from July 2024 have to have the additional EU safety (speed prevention, emission reduction, climate change) stuff fitted which needs switching off every time it starts, often requiring more than one button press or menu option.

Agree with the Ohlins if bored but a remap will only produce 10% more plus the GR1 is as fast at the GR2 0-60mph, so I wouldn’t bother with the latter.

The GR1 is already bad enough with the PITA stuff - thought they couldn't make it worse, but forgot about the EU regs.

For B-road stuff, the car already has enough power (must be getting old...), however they seem to make 310ish rampant Japanese ponies reliably, which is tempting. Brings the power to weight up from 200 to 250. Only if I get bored (honest).

Ah yeah think it was a post by me as RH classics are quoting £950 for the same dinitrol treatment.

Yes, please find out and post up what was done / what product was applied.

The Focus RS is a bit of an anomaly. Not only was and is the MK3 the last ever Focus RS, but the MK2 and MK3 were launched in times of very easy credit which has helped maintain residuals. Ford also has a huge and very dedicated fan base for it's performance models in the UK. People who literally won't buy any other make of car. Hence the utterly crazy prices for things like Escort Cosworths and old RS Turbo's etc, despite being not actually that great cars objectively speaking.

Still, the MK1 Focus RS, perhaps the rarest and most special of all depreciated just like any other car back in the day, only to appreciate again now that it is a modern classic.

Toyota, although they make great cars, still have a bit of an image problem in the UK. The Yaris is generally seen as a car for grannies or young drivers. The Toyota fan base is tiny compared to that of Ford. And really special limited run Japanese cars have always suffered heavy depreciation in the past. Look back 10-15 years and things like 22B's and RB5's, Integra Type R's, NSX, Skyline etc. have all been available for practically peanuts at the lowest point in their depreciation curve.

The last 15 years since the financial crisis have not been normal. The last 3 years of disruptive Covid policies have seen the market and it's supply chains distorted by an exceptional degree. But now that's over, interest rates are up, easy credit is all but gone and we are on the verge of a potentially very deep recession. American's over leverage on vehicle finance and it's exposure to sub prime debt will spill over to the UK if something bursts (and right now it is looking very, very shaky). So we are at a return to the mean stage, with always the possibility of an overshoot on the way down before it comes back up again.

The financial markets generally believe this too as the move away from risky and overvalued ESG and growth stocks and into more traditional and stable value stocks gathers pace. Gold is up too, a bellwether in times of financial volatility and uncertainty.

But that's just what the markets think - and what do they know compared to some bloke on here who already owns a GRY and still believes that by the summer 2024, with a new model on the way, it'll still be worth nearly what he paid for it.

Haha quite. But lets see what happens to the market then shall we. I bet I'm right and by the summer the £20k GRY will be with us.

I wonder if it was the monstrous VTR 1.8, (the poor mans VTS), that would reach 100mph eventually, provided you had a tailwind. Or did he drive something almost entirely different that just happened to have a Citroen Xsara badge.
