Are we being strictly fair comparing the weight of the GR to the older rally jobbers. After all they were a segment or 2 up.
The awd Subaru Justy had a kerb weight of 760kg hehe
I’d say a good match for the older rally ones was the Sunny GTi-R
- 1240kg
The Yaris looks good in comparison bearing in mind bigger wheels/brakes, modern safety etc

Have been to collect a new pickup from Toyota today and asked about this.. He said if you order today your now looking at November for delivery!
Mine is due in March/April :P
Dealers have been saying for each week that passes 1 month is added to delivery dates.

Not saying it's right, but I didn't make it up.

Although a long options list may make up the difference... Pano roof can't be light.
The 1476kg weight is there too.. why did you pick the heaviest weight?
1611kg is EU weight incl 75kg driver, so 1536kg. The 1476kg is usually mostly theoretical as it's so basic in equipment, nobody buys it, if it's even possible to buy in your market. The 1536kg is the heaviest tested car. Median is then perhaps 1510kg...

Because the segments themselves grow too!

The 3-door R is maybe a better comparison to the Yaris as that is also a 3-door
That came in at 1410kg for a DSG with half a tank of juice - so with a full tank maybe 1440kg. Maybe a manual be a little less?

3-door S1 came in at 1365kg on half a tank of fuel

1420kg for the manual 3-door Golf R then. MQB platform is lightest in class. S1 is relatively heavy, 100kg more than the Yaris then.

I just cancelled my GT4 build slot due to a number of factors -might end up back there in a year or two. Would I be mad to consider one of these as a replacement weekend toy?

Depends how long you’re willing to wait or how much you’re willing to pay.

No. You wouldn’t be mad. But if you want one new you’ve got to wait a whole year now. Just in time for Covid-20 to fk things up again.

Well done!

I would be very interested to find out what all these cars actually weigh, on scales. The GRY is very honest, circuit pack being 1280-1290kg with a full tank.
The Subaru and early Lancer will be closest in weight to the Yaris if you mean standard examples of those cars. Doubt there’ll be anything there that was much over 1350kg out the factory. Maybe the Celica
The original Impreza was about 1200kg as mine was corner weighted. Different world back then though.

Didn't look spectacularly closely, but my R (excellent car, BTW) had every option barring panoramic roof and smoking pack. It was an estate too, so even heavier. For me there may well be upwards of a 300kg difference...

Are dealerships jumping on the flip bandwagon as well, not even available until April but likely ragged about for a hard 750 miles! £39,995. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324445999724
