Yeah, or red if you want a good colour.
Or black if you really want it to look as good as possible.

Colour is all such a personal thing - red all day long for me.

Interesting that dealers still have slots left. I was going to stick a deposit down online, in the full knowledge it's refundable any time before I pick the car up, considering it would be over a year to deliver it (May22?) and my circumstances/ needs could have changed by then.

Is the situation the same with dealer deposits? ie. fully refundable, or do they have different rules? If refundable, I'll probably ask which dealers have slots left!

Anyone got a copy of Clarkson’s review? I’d really like to read it without having to input my bank details to get a 30 day free trial.
It’s really not that special. If you have apple news+ it’s on there.
Autocar’s full road test on the Yaris will be out in the 3rd March issue. Always like their format

It's essential if I need a car.
Is a test drive in a brand new car essential though? I can certainly see why it would be advisable to have one in a used car.
When I buy new cars I always know exactly what I want so for me a test drive is not required.
I have bought my last 4 factory ordered new cars without a test drive and have been delighted with every one of them.
It's personal choice. If it was another daily for me I could probably just order it but I did test the Model 3 and that was a hugely underwhelming apart from the acceleration. With the GRY it's brief is much tougher, I need to love the way it drives, looks and feels.

Where as I’ve been on test drives in a few cars that on paper should have been great but the test drive showed me some deal breaking niggles that hadn’t come to light or were a bit subjective in research. For example the range of opinions of seating position in this Yaris

Exactly, if I hadn’t booked a test drive I wouldn’t have put a deposit down as I was led to believe that only hobbits could drive it by the internet rumour mill.

I was behind my first new Yaris this morning. Not a GR unfortunately, and predictably it was being driven at slightly less than 20 mph. In a 30 zone. I wonder what the GR will do for the model’s average speed? It must be instantly doubling the CO2 output.

Got bored, booked a test drive, got an email saying they aren't doing any! If Tesla can why can't they (for the entire range of cars)?
The deposit is refundable, so order one and test drive when they are available?

i could but not sure of the point, apart from to save a month or so. Might as well wait to drive one.

I drove the FRS a few years ago and as much as I wanted one it felt heavy and fairly unexciting to drive (not helped by a rubbish test drive route). Also the Recaro shell seats were awful. Buying that without a test would have been an expensive mistake.

Also, the GRY looks Mega but not sure about the size. I once had a mini cooper s for a day (mk1 of modern ones). It was fantastic but I felt like I was too grown up for one now (🤣🙄). I wonder if I'd feel the same about this. Although it's probably bigger than my R26! I think it's a mindset thing tbh. Little hot hatches for when I was younger. Even though it's much larger than they ever were and it's the size of my R26.

Main point being they are almost sold out, so if you think you might want a new one you haven't got long - unless they decide to allocate more to UK,

It’s not as big inside as an R26 Megane. That is a C segment hatch, the next class up. The GR Yaris is a weird one as it has a bespoke chassis made up of a Yaris front end with a Corolla rear end. So the chassis is bigger in wheelbase and track than a Supermini and the body shell is 55 mm longer and 60 mm wider but the interior is no roomier than a standard Yaris and has a much lower roofline (45 mm at the front, 95 mm at the rear).

Obviously if you’re coming from an R26.R, then having any rear seats at all is a huge practicality upgrade. And they’re easily binned if you want to get the weight down to 1,245 kg straight away.

There's no specific dealer slots, we all just order from the same pot. When they are gone, they are all gone for everyone.

It is but it is 18 years apart so the GRY is now probably as big as my R26. It's that mental/brain thing of seeing it as a 'Clio' sized car and not a Megane sized car (even though those are huge now). Same with a MINI tbh too.

Oh to be 20 again and not have this issue! Or be able to afford one hehe

Thanks Ferris, that's helpful.

Is the deposit situation the same ordering directly with a dealer? ie. it is refundable, as per online Toyota UK orders.

There seems to be many different deposit amounts being requested by dealers, and I don't know if these are refundable or not. (as I mentioned above, who knows what the world will be like in 1year+, even though as it stands I would fully intend on following through with the order).

If I ordered with you, do you have availability to secure slots still? (Red Circuit Pack). Many thanks.

If you are in ANY doubt, order via Toyota website.

I am taking £500 deposit, once you have had a test drive when we are back open (Mid April?) and you are happy the GR is suitable for you, that deposit is not refundable.

Other dealers will have different rules, and opinions, but it's massively time consuming to be taking orders, doing the test drives, then doing constant updates, for someone change their mind late on.
All for something I wont get paid a penny on until potentially June 2022.

I know that sounds *REALLY* harsh, and it will put me in a negative light, but I'd rather just be totally honest with you from the start!
(I have looked after a number of PH members, many who have already collected their GR's)

What is the situation with cancelled orders being "sold on", surely that is not allowed??

I was late in the game to get my order in, but would expect a cancelled order to allow me to move up the ladder, not be sold on to someone else, who was even later in the game than me!

Just feeling a bit miffed as was told that it would not happen!

I'm not sure why people want bigger cars if there are no reasons, like kids, to necessitate them.

Thanks again Ferris. Totally understand, there's no way I want to mess anyone around at all. Hence I wanted to order via the Toyota website, but I don't think you can do that any more now? confused
