I think there's actually enough of us now to try and break out of a single thread — maybe even to petition for our own subforum! eek
I raised this with the moderator ages ago. We have subfora for lots of relatively obscure brands but why not Alpine?

I did wonder when searching why there was no Alpine sub.

I’m sure the mods can see the need for an Alpine dedicated sub.

Mods are you there scratchchin

I've posted a new topic on the General Gassing forum - hope that gets some response.

I hope so. The problem with moving it there is that it soon becomes practically invisible to anyone else. The original MOVED post remains in GeneralGassing but, because no-one can reply it soon disappears to page 3,4 etc.

With my car impending I've been looking into paint protection film (either because of or in spite of having gone Atelier, I can't decide). Full coverage seems mental money, and I can't help but think it's best value in a couple of places - front bumper and ahead of the rear wheels?

Can any higher mile owners offer their views as to how vulnerable these areas are compared to the rest of the body? Any areas where chips or road rash have appeared that you wouldn't have expected?

TIA

I'm also looking to get this on mine (it landed at the dealer today!!). Be interested to hear what peoples response to this is. Looking at the Front End Plus package from Monza Detailing near Worcester.

I decided not to have it when I bought mine, then I got a small chip on the front bumper within days

I therefore decided it was the wrong call so I had ppf installed on the front up to the doors and a small section of roof and the rear arches and cills.

In 4000 miles I haven't had any more chips so its done its job. Mine is a very long term keeper so it was worth it for me but if you are going to move it on in a couple of years I don't think you would see a return on your money.

I got my front end and part of the rear arches done - the rest being ceramic coated.
The front end has survived almost chip free save for two spots where the film is snagged- presumably by a rock- I think I can “fix it” with a hair dryer but haven’t tried yet -I’m near 20,000 miles.
One thing I was a bit disappointed with is the fact that even though it is the super duper laser cut film it doesn’t come to the edges- upon inspection it is clear there is a film on it as the edge can be seen- otherwise it would be invisible - perhaps have a look at Litchfield as they had a spray on coating that might be better.
Am I glad I got it - yes- it’s been driven a lot and seems to have done its job. It also makes cleaning easier with the film.

Thanks all - already very useful, great to hear there's little 'buyer's regret' regarding it.

Dead set on getting something (to avoid your scenario springfan!), but not sold on doing the whole lot because a) cost and b) the visibility of the film edges as Miserablegit noted. I think I'm trying to choose between just the front bumper and doing the whole front end. Firms local to me offer something in between (half way up the bonnet/wings) but not keen on the film edge running across the panels.

If you keep it clean it's barely visible, the downside can be you get dirt build up on the edges which make the edges of the film darker and show up more.

Also I avoid using a pressure washer other than on a very low pressure to avoid lifting any edges.

What's the film malarkey cost, typically?

I had the front of the car (wings and bonnet) and the rear lower bumper done in ppf with ceramic coating to the rest of the car. I had ceramic coating to the wheels and interior as well.
It cost £2160

It's a bit funny because you are sold it at the same time as a full paint correction (polish) so the guys who fit it know the paint they're applying it to is as good as possible. That itself seems to be £5-700 from the quotes I have so far.

Thereafter, half front end 'kits' seem to be up to £700, full front ends (up to the doors) about £1250 ish with full cars being £3k plus - on top of the polish.

Another way to hose money on a new car, but at least feels like a tangible form of insurance biggrin

Crikey eek it adds up.

On top of £4K for a special colour.

Yes it does add up.
As my car is used regularly I think I’ve already saved on 2 resprays of the front end nevermind the hassle of not having a car during a respray.

Front bumper and bonnet (frunk) done with X-pell protection film (I do it on every car => I track all my cars, almost never clean them, drive a lot of miles and keep them all for years). In my opinion; anything more then bonnet and bumper is just overkill for the price (on a car like the Alpine => it's not a Bugatti). Let's be honest; even if your car is full PPF (which is costly) then you can still get damage or dents (bigger objects on motorway then stones, people who can't park and hit the car, accidents, etc).
