What is 'the FAR'?
I think it's this: https://forum.alpinerenault.com/ not signed up myself as my French isn't strong enough
I signed up to the website some time ago and it’s not a bad place for information and a, mainly, French view of Alpine. Google translate is your friend if posting otherwise Safari will translate the website into English smile

Think there is another Alpine name inside each of the headlights too.

Test drove an S at the weekend. Would really like to drive a normal one, have to wait for Alpine sales man to come back of hollybobbs later this week.

But in the meantime I have a question for owners….

Where the hell do you put stuff?

I’m going to be using it as a driving car, that means dawn raids, Welsh weekends, highland tours, etc.. so I could be out in it for a couple of hours to a week.
I can pack light, so I’m ok with living out of a couple of rucksacks and they’ll fit in the Frunk.
The gap under the bridge takes car of your phone and glasses case.
But…. Where does my 1l Buxton spring sport bottle go? It’s too big to fit in that single cup holder between the seats ( also what an anus place to put a cup holder).. but with no door bins or anything, where does that go? Where does the emergency flapjack go?

And given its French, where does the breathalyser and high viz jacket go???

Or does everyone have a passenger footwell that looks like you’ve had a 5 year olds birthday party in your car?
A couple of thoughts - I bought a couple of Velcro nets which fit behind each of the seats on the bulkhead and can carry two or three water bottle each (think they were £10 on eBay). I also splashed out and bought the Alpine Panniers that fit down the side of the bucket seats (don’t think they fit by the comfort seats?), they weren’t cheap but they’ll ideal for glasses, masks, keys etc etc.

With just these couple of bits I don’t find storage an issue at all now smile

Hey folks, just getting ready for an evening session at Donington Park… can someone remind me how to stop the handbrake coming on!? Something to do with pressing neutral but can’t turn the life of me remember.
When you turn the car off, push the handbrake button down simultaneously with the start/stop button, then after a few seconds press the start button again without your foot on the brake. Once the dash etc come alive place your foot on the brake and press the N button, this should put in Neutral rather than Park and you can press the start button again to turn the car off.

Anyone manages to fit their Alpine inside a single garage? I have enough space for my Elise SC, but I’m worried that if I get an A110 it’ll have to stay outside.
The measurement seems to just about work, but I can’t really predict how the door thickness and seat ingress is going to play.
Mine fits in ok, I line it up and retract the mirrors and then back in. I also have a tennis ball on a bit string hanging from the roof which bounces off the rear window so I know when to stop smile

Had the morning at Thruxton today doing the Alpine experience courtesy of Martins in Winchester. Due the fact I have an ‘S’ I was allowed to do both sessions in an ‘S’ rather than the standard car, so it was great to see what the car can do when not on a public road. Needless to say I had a great time and thought I was peddling quite well until the instructor took me out for a fast lap at the end laugh

If anyone gets a chance to do this then I’d thoroughly recommend it as Thruxton offer it as a package and I think it’s also on offer at the Alpine Day being held there on the 25th September. thumbup

I keep looking for a date to get to Thruxton for the 110 drive.
My 110 PE is coming up to three years old and I bought it from Winchester - I would say I’m surprised they haven’t been in touch but I’m not surprised as the after sales was so poor I take it to Manchester for servicing.
I had arranged to go last year but COVID put paid to that so I dropped the dealer an email a few weeks back and asked if these events were still available and the next I know I was booked in, so might be worth dropping them a line - Adam Stewart is the current sales guy.

It feels very stiff on the British roads to be honest. In town and A roads its fine, but bumpy B roads I'd rather have a softer setup. The lower stance and stiff roll bars of the S coupled with the Life springs and setup mean its also liable to catch some speed bumps. Its a trade off me, my main use will be on the track so I was prepared to suffer a bit more on the road....
Aren't the Life springs *softer* than the standard S springs?
I seem to recall reading somewhere that they were about 5% softer than the standard S springs, might of been on David’s FB page.

I’m no track day expert, but the A110s I drove at Thruxton circuit last week felt pretty well suited to track work for me and then the instructor showed me how it should be driven and it still felt pretty well planted smile

For me I think making it any stiffer would compromise it’s on road handling and enjoyment.

Joining this thread it seems the most active user group outside Facebook. Going to dump some questions..

[mods]
My PE a110 has been a delight. A super usable coupe. You can reach for it for any purpose other than carrying luggage or 3+ people. I've got the carbon spoiler life110 sold, and his paddles. The paddles are as advertised and will keep them on, (but I am not too big a fan of the sandpaper finish).

[tune]
I got the autohaus axel Reb motorsport tune box. Can really feel the extra torque. One thing I noticed with it is the traction control now seems partly defeated. This is particularly obvious on wet roads. I wonder if traction control is calibrated for fixed torque? I don't mind, it definitely makes it more fun in the rain even without sport mode. I thought traction control is closed loop. Doesn't feel like it.

[exhaust]
The PE has the sports exhaust. I'm thinking of an aftermarket one with flapper controlled by app. It is a straight shot pipe with flapper off. The maker tells me the factory sports exhaust controls the flap constantly even in sport or track so theirs is much better.. Any opinions on this? I don't like the idea of using an app. Much rather have a button. Anyone who did an exhaust swap from sport think its a waste of time?

[wheels]
I'd like to get the Corse sports wheels 8J and 9J, directly from Corse. Anyone tried that?

[lipo battery]
Has anyone fitted a lithium battery? I tried one but it was no good because the Renault uses an eco battery. charge method that cycles the alternator on and off and most lithium batteries assume a constant 14v charge voltage. So it never got full enough to be reliable. The car always thought it was full when it was only 30% full.

There is a German company with a (very expensive) lithium batteries that also comes with a defeat device that fools this voltage detection circuit, I think it adjusts the voltage reading so the alternator stays on at higher voltages. But apart from the very expensive battery they also won't sell that defeat unit to anyone who hasn't bought their battery. I think this mod is worth it for the weight saving. What do you guys think? Alpine goes on about saving grams due to flax speaker cones then sticks a heavy ass battery at the top of the frunk. WTAF.

[cup holder and stereo]
I've got a alibaba cupholder that clips to the vent, and am looking to get a sub-woofer installed in the firewall behind the passenger seat, using the cut out that I think all cars have in the chassis.. So it will be similar to the stock legende sub. Anyone done this after market yet? It would need removing the trim and the plastic backplate to the trim. Afraid of clips breaking.

I'd love to increase the DAB radio sensitivity. Anyone considered installing a better antenna? It probably has has a stock connector for the antenna its just a Bosch unit. Vs other DAB cars I drive in the same area, the drop outs are much worse.

[windscreen]
My windscreen cracked in the usual place on both sides after a few days having fun in Tasmania. Replaced under warranty. I do hope I don't go to Tasmania again and crack the new one!

[rattles]
The bucket seats creak annoyingly now. You can reproduce by grasping the top and pulling and pushing. I'm considering pulling them apart to find out why. I guess they dried out from new and some plastic is rubbing on something else.

There also a resonance on idle from somewhere in the cabin behind my head. If the idle drops due to alternator or ac load. it rather spoils the premium feel. Also my door creaks from hinge on opening closing. Anyone else? I should just hit it with some grease, I guess.

I haven't driven any Lotus, but I've always felt like the A110 is the middle ground of the Elise and Cayman.

I'm probably a bit wrong, but would love to hear ex-Lotus owners chime in on that.
OK, I'll chime. Bought a 981 Cayman in 2013, sold it and bought an Elise 220 sport and now have an A110 Legende.

In my view a decent middle ground but leaning toward Lotus rather than the Cayman which is just too un-engaging at road speeds. Where the Alpine really surprises is refinement whilst being so light and agile. It's not got the raw excitement of a Lotus but delivers perhaps 85% of it (way better than a Cayman) while being livable with daily, particularly ingress/egress which is the Elise's weakest point in my opinion.

Cheap to run and holds value well - again like a Lotus.
Having owned 3 Lotus models before buying the A110s I’d agree with the above totally.

Feel free to contribute! So far I have shared my own photos, and a link to some of the best YouTube content I've found so far about the car.
Nice - just subbed

Looks like the Alpine Owners day at Thruxton has been cancelled sadly. Not sure of the reasons yet, just read a post of the RAOC on Facebook.

That's hilarious! Like a squirrel's found the car and stashed everything it could find!

Kudos to you both for giving it a go. Not sure the dog's going to enjoy it as much hehe
Thanks smile Paddy (the dog not the wife!) is fine, he just lays in the footwell and sleeps. We do stop every hour or so for comfort breaks though.

Enjoy your trip, I live next to the South Shropshire Hills so if someone waves it might be me.

I have only ever seen one Alpine out and about apart from mine.
We’re staying just outside Westbury, but will look out for you as I still haven’t seen another A110 on the road in 18 months of ownership.
