Personally I doubt that they will see it as a particular safety issue and they will not expect liability for an accident following the failure to fall on them.

Anything that causes the engine to cut out suddenly will have the same impact, coil packs, ECU, wiring, battery etc. Blame for any accident will attach to the car that hits the decelerating Alpine following the same principle as any other incident where a car is hit from behind. In case of failure during an overtake manoeuvre blame will fall on the driver for not allowing sufficient time should something fail on the car.

Now if it were brakes, or something that causes a wheel to come off etc....

I don’t know enough about the operation of the DCT gearbox but is it possible the wheels lock if the engine stops? When I had my alternator fault the car dropped to a walking pace but didn’t lock up as the engine was still turning.

Ordinarily that wouldn't happen as the revs drops below about 1500 rpm the box would change down to a lower gear and when it got below about 1500 rpm in first the associated clutch would disengage. However since this isn't a normal condition I wouldn't be sure it would work as expected.

The important point is whether you can engage neutral if the fault occurs - which hopefully might give you more time to get to freewheel to a place of relative safety.

sudden loss of power has been a trigger for many a recall. Just google recall sudden loss of power.

Whilst at K-Tec racing this morning having a lower torque mount fitted(see posting) I mentioned the ongoing fuel pump failures, I was told that it is the same for the Megane IV BUT RENAULT HAS ISSUED AN ORANGE RECALL.

Does anyone know if it is the the same part/controller/pump insides?

shape/depth of the tank will be different so unlikely to be the same part number, but the gubbins/pump/controller might be standard parts bin stuff

My car failed 3 times, I've reported it to the DVSA.
Have you heard anything back?

Got mine back today. Apparently it wasn't the fuel pump, but some other known issue that needed one of the ECUs reprogramming (they did check it hadn't been remapped as this would have overwritten that - at least that's the way it was phrased, rather than a remap contributing to the issue). At least covered under warranty (I did take out their extended one, but the implication was it would have been done gratis anyway). Just need to get some miles done now and get confidence back that it is resolved. They did comment that most of the fuel pump issues have been on 2022 cars.

They sent some initial questions which I answered promptly but nothing after that. Difficult as I don't own the car anymore.

So sorry to hear that. What did they do to “fix” it last time?

See about 3 posts up. I think just software updates. Hopefully they will do more this time, but no doubt are limited by what the diagnostics tell them.

Ah, sorry missed that. Well, hopefully you’ll get a new pump, and that will solve the issue.

Oh jeez. Sorry to hear that Jon, I hope they manage to sort it this time. Was it the same problem do you think?

Same symptoms certainly. Only this time won't restart (waiting several hours for recovery so plenty of time to cool down) on the upside if it's properly stuffed it should be harder to make excuses.
