The new M2 reviews have left embargo I've always thought the M2 was a possible "post A110" substitute especially in Manual.

The new one appears to be a complete beast.
But I don't think I could get on with that styling, especially the front end.

The last gen M2 CS just looks so much nicer!
Nothing against the M2 but a strange substitute for the Alpine ? Very different attributes !!

Owned my Legende for nearly three years from new and purchased it as a keeper to run alongside my Golf R loved the Alpine and loved driving it but sadly it ended up just being a weekend car and only then if the weather permitted covering only 5000mls, ended up p/x the Golf for a new Audi RS3 and sold the Alpine through a basic two week ad on Autotrader losing exactly £10,000 which was reasonable depreciation in my view.
Still admire them when I very occasionally see one on the road and loved the go kart like handling but issues regarding reliability/build concerning windscreens, fuel pumps etc and worse of all rusting did concern me for longevity, anyway for now enjoying the performance of last ice five pot RS3 not quite the head turner of the Alpine but loving it all the same whats comes next is anybody's guess.

well that is the point there isnt really one.
top gear just pronounced the m2 “impish charm” lost with this new version. The last m2 had impish charm. The a110 has impish charm. I suppose the GR yaris is now top rank as a substitute but it too is very different.

First car I ever owned £325 from a local Ford dealer liked it so much sold it and bought another, how car prices have changed.

My previous car to the Alpine was...a manual M2 Competition. Nice car. Looks so much better than the current fugly thing. More power (but much heavier) and nicer engine than the Alpine but the Alpine is a much more fun car to drive and just a superior sports car.

I don't think they'll be a 'new' car to move to, that does what the Alpine does.
The closest is the 4C isn't it? and you can't get that new anymore, and despite a lack of a carbon tub, Alpine have arguably done the Fi 4cyl lightweight coupe better.
You're gonna keep it.
You could try something "similar" and different - Emira/Cayman, which will offer more of stuff you might not prioritise...
But "new"? ...there will be nothing, so because there's so very little like it, go in a whole new direction - V6,V8,V10 from something older....
I came VERY close to getting one, but I wanted open top....

There’s this of course: the GMA T33 Spider… for £1.8 million.

Murray does mention how the benchmark for handling / ride for the T33 was the A110…

Very similar weight too. The T33 wins on luggage capacity, so that might just swing it. biggrin

The fact Murray loves and benchmarks the A110 is a good enough reason for me!

If money wasn't an issue, I think the vast majority of A110 owners would take a T33 too. Nothing like lightweighting.

It's pretty cool to have the owner of super car manufacturer not only talk about and praise your car, but spend their own money on one...
He also benchmarked the Evora...
It's really interesting and really telling.
Whatever you think of Gordon Murray, it's proper pub-bragging stuff.... like "Ayrton and the NSX"

Also...the 4cyl Emira would be ballpark similar wouldn't it?....just heavier (again)

rumours of the Toyota MR2 coming back gather pace too....

I think he primarily sees the A110 as an opportunity to talk about himself.

I sold my new gr86 to an Alpine owner who just got fed up with ongoing reliability gremlins.

It put me off buying one sadly.
But now the Alpine is back the GR86 has gone to a new home wink.

The GR86 is a very good car but the Alpine is in a different league.
