A few have moved from a Cayman to an A110 myself included albeit via an Elise.

My opinion is the Cayman has better luggage space, has a better quality of interior materials and more interior storage space.

The A110 is more engaging, more fun at all speeds, has better suited gearing is more refined and just feels special due to the bespoke nature of the lightweight design. The luggage space whilst not as good as the Cayman is still good and perfectly adequate for touring. It's also more economical, cheaper to service and will be as strong as the Porsche re depreciation.

I wouldn't buy another Cayman while the A110 exists as for me it does more of what I want.

I'd along with that (I come from a 981S Cayman). I would add that it is quieter with or without sports exhaust (tyre noise in the Cayman is pretty dire) and the combination of far better gearing and more torque makes the performance far more accessible. Doesn't make such nice noises, but I'd choose it over any Cayman every time. Just far more fun, with no real downside (that matters to me).

Which wheels are these?

It's a legende with what appears to be the S wheels.

It is a MY22 GT, doing its best to look like an S. I guess the Alpine logos have been coated or wrapped black. The wheels are indeed the black GT Race wheels that come standard with the S.

Hi All

I don't (yet) have an A110, but have been reading this thread with great interest. I swapped from a M100 Elan (owned for over 25 years) to a Cayman (987.2) three years ago. Although I enjoy the Cayman, which suits my "could be a daily driver" criteria, I find the noise somewhat intrusive on a long drive - particularly with the other half in the passenger seat, so have not yet attempted a tour, which was also part of the purchase equation. Dare I suggest a slight lack of "soul" as well?

So I would be very interested to hear the experience of anyone on here has moved from a Cayman to A110. Downsides to the A110 (apart from the entry price, esp. used) seem to be a lack of luggage space and a less than brilliant info system - I don't find the Cayman's system great, so not too worried there - and perhaps a little less durable than the Cayman.

Upsides, you will all know, are the lightness/handling, comfort, lower running costs and from what I have read, a massive feel-good from every drive. I also like the rarity value - though I don't see too many Caymans either. I am thinking a Pure and not likely to track it.

Any thoughts gratefully received, thank you.
In response to your request for information on anyone switching from a Cayman to an A110, I can provide the following comments;

I have previously owned five Caymans over a period of 12 years, covering over 100,000 miles in total including competitive motorsport, club track days, and UK and European touring.

2008 987.1 Cayman 2.7 5-speed manual.
2010 987.2 Cayman 3.4 S 6-speed manual.
2012 987.2 Cayman R 3.4 manual.
2016 718 Cayman S 2.5t PDK.
2019 718 Cayman GTS 2.5t PDK Ceramic Brakes.

I purchased my Matte Mercury Silver 2021 Alpine A110 Legende GT last September from Alpine Centre Manchester. I have now completed over 5000 miles including a track test at Knockhill circuit, comparing the performance with my previous Caymans. Earlier this year I purchased a set of 8J and 9J 18" Evo Corse alloy wheels from Life 110 fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, 215 section front, 245 section rear. The 4-wheel geometry settings were adjusted in accordance to Life 110 Fast Road specification.

The Initial driving impression of the A110 is its lightness of mass and the responsive dynamics of the driver controls. Although the Legende GT has softer road springs than the A110S, the damping is quite firm, giving the car a busy ride over bumpy road surfaces. The Cayman R, 718 S, and 718 GTS, all had stiffer and lowered suspension options, which gave the impression of more compliant ride. The 300kgs additional weight of the Cayman no doubt contributed to the feeling of road refinement over bumpy surfaces compared to the lighter A110. My A110 was weighed on a local weigh-bridge at 1122kgs.

Both on the road and track the 2021 A110 Legende GT is an engaging drive. The A110 may forfeit mechanical grip compared to the wider tyred Caymans, but it is no less playful and enjoyable. Compared to the standard 7J and 8J wheels and Michelin PS4 tyres, the wider Evo Corse alloys and Cup 2 tyres are a significant enhancement to driving enjoyment in my opinion. The car now displays less understeer, is more pointy, and greater stability compared to the standard wheel/tyre set-up. The lack of a limited slip diff did not pose any problems on the track. Although some movement could be detected on fast corners, the rear grip on the Cup 2's was very reassuring.

Last month I completed an 11-day car tour to North Norfolk form my home near Inverness. Over the 1100 miles covered, my A110 averaged 40.0mpg on E5 super unleaded fuel. Similar touring trips with my Caymans averaged 28.0mpg on the same E5 fuel. I had no problems with luggage storage space in the A110. An aircraft cabin-sized wheelie case stowed easily in the front luggage compartment, and a medium sized hold-all in the rear compartment.

Niggles? There are a few. The reflections on the windscreen are quite obtrusive at first. Over time I have gotten used to them. Rear view vision is limited by the letter-box style rear window. The infotainment is also not to Porsche standards, although I found the sat nav worked very well once I had the hang of programming it.

Following my experiences with this particular A110 version, I would not now revert to another Cayman. I love the Getrag short, close-ratio DSG gearbox. So much better suited to the roads I enjoy in the Highlands, compared to the Cayman's longer geared ratios. I have found with the A110 I am using a gear higher than with the Cayman on the same piece of rural road. Despite that the fuel economy is significantly better than the Cayman, due the lighter body mass. Comfort-wise I have found the Legende GT sports seats extremely comfortable on long drives. All-in-all, the A110 is the better car for my current requirements than any current Cayman.

Finally in closing, a more detailed review comparing my previous Cayman experiences with that of my A110 Legende GT is due to appear in the next issue of the Alpine Club magazine Le Journal.

Thanks for the Emerald Green pictures everyone, looks good indeed.

Still thinking about going for the S2 to replace my Pure. Need to check finances and stuff but I’d like a last crazy new sportcar before we’re all doomed to drive vacuum cleaners.

Vert Cendre looks pretty awesome too redface

Mine too (MY2022)
Sporky, Worldwidewebs, thanks very much for your replies. I'm pleased to report that my infotainment screen is now behaving normally, there have been further OTA updates which have fixed the stop/start re-boot issue. I'm pleasantly surprised as I had convinced myself it must be a wiring fault. So I just needed to be a little more patient. Hopefully if anyone else experiences this on a new car they will know just to wait, just a shame they don't install them at the dealer pre-delivery.
thanks John

The price on PE’s seems to have softened recently. x2 have been @ £40k with dealers (not Alpine dealers); a white one and a black one.

Not ideal when mine is for sale, and all interested buyers are citing those cars 😂

Think I’ll be keeping it, not selling for £40k.

Even £40k is only 25% depreciation over 4 years - which is still very good (for the seller). Problem for me would be what to buy next - apart from another one.

John Banks Cambridge sold a blue 2018 14k mile PE about a month ago, up at 43,500

Deposit taken the same afternoon the ad appeared. It reappeared about a week later & was gone again the following day.

This was subsequent to a test drive so
I had no idea if this was good or not, I assume given how quickly it went twice it was?

Anyone with greater knowledge on prices I’d appreciate thoughts, cheers.

Really tempted to pull the trigger on this. Always wanted a Lotus as a Frenchie so I feel like it could be a nice middle-ground biggrin

Would be a nice change from all the blue ones here in France.

Currently humming and harring over selling my Abyss Blue Legende GT with the tan interior.

Love the car but it's not getting the use it deserves and I'm going to be away a lot for the next 6 months.

Following on from my post of Wednesday July 6th.

Regarding tyre noise, in my experience with multiple Porsche Caymans this issue is less obtrusive on the A110 than on the Cayman.

I've experienced Michelin Cup 2 tyres both on the Cayman R and on the 2021 Legende GT. By comparison, tyre noise is much less obtrusive on the A110. Cup 2 tyres generate more road noise than PS4 tyres.

The Cayman has McPherson strut suspension at both ends, whereby the A110 has double wishbone suspension which insulates the road noise more effectively.

BTW, why is my previous post dated July 6th tinted with a blue background?
