Depends who you listen to, the hysterical members of the FB group or people like me, who have a 31,000 mile '21 plate with no pump issues at all.
I thought the same. Until i stalled on my way to a already paid hotel and trackday (needless to say that Alpine didn’t handle this to my satisfaction…).
The fact that we finally have a recall also shows that this isn’t the usual low percentage problem that gets overdramatized on the internet, but an actual problem that can happen to anyone at any point. It can be easily noticed, because one moment you are enjoying your car, and the next moment your standing next to the road for several hours and overthink your poor car decisions…

Cars sometimes break. ALL cars sometimes break. If that constitutes a poor car decision to you, then I guess there aren’t many manufacturers you can be comfortable buying from hehe

But it is still a low percentage problem that’s being overdramatised. It’s literally a minority of owners that have issues.

This problem has now become big enough to cross the threshold for a recall to be triggered, which is a really good example of a process working exactly as it should. The presumably affected pumps will be replaced, and there will continue to be a large majority of very happy owners.

I would love to see how you think about it after you make the same experience.

The cayman has none of these problems and if something breaks you go to the dealership (of which there are many) order the part and get it in time. Alpine logistics are just a different league.

I’ve had cars suddenly break and leave me stranded before, and I owned a Lotus before this, so I’m fairly familiar with waiting a long time for parts.

I know that Winchester now either have a pump on the shelf or can get it in 24hrs, so I highly doubt I’ll be without the car long if it does happen.

It sounds like the Cayman will be or would have been a far more relaxing ownership proposition for you smile

That's not normal: or at least it's not my experience, and I've only read of it happening once or twice on here. I picked up on a tip to put a smear of copper grease on the thumbscrews -it won't stop the leaks but it will ensure you can undo them. If it isn't the seals on the thumbscrews then I think it would be the boor seal that needs replacing: I'm pretty sure the rear screen is independent of the boot, but others will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd agree that the 252bhp Legende is the sweet spot in the range...but then I'm biased...

Were you in the Bannau Brecheiniog/Brecon Beacons? That patched tarmac looks strangely familiar!
Thanks LE62NDE.

Strangely whilst it's been raining on and off for the past day or so here, the car's boot is still bone dry. Maybe it only gets wet with Welsh rain hehe
or when driving. Or maybe I fixed it by opening and closing the rear screen properly. Time will tell.
Pics are from near the Sportsman's Arms at the top of the Evo triangle. Whch was partially flooded I just recall now ... hmm a clue perhaps idea

I'm with you on this one.

The Alpine owners are unfortunately very keen about their cars and a large majority read the forums and groups daily listening to what people have to say about the car they they already own.

Had it been any other car, whether it's a Toyota RAV4 or a Porsche Boxster, people don't engage in the communities even 10% as frequently as the average Alpine owner does.

This has caused people to get obsessed over one issue. There has been a huge amount of hyperbole about the potential of getting stuck on the outside lane of a motorway, when in reality I've only seen it actually happen to one person.

The whatsapp groups, FB groups and forums have been people asking for an update on a recall, damning Renault for not making a public statement on the issue, saying it's ridiculous they haven't announced a recall yet.

But I didn't want Alpine to issue a recall until they were good and ready. I wanted that new fuel pump tested to the moon and back before they release it, not to just announce a recall on a half-baked updated pump just to stop a fuddy duddy from losing sleep over it.

This is Alpine owners over the fuel pump issue:

Delighted to see an A110 giving charity rides for the Sporting Bears at the NEC classic cars show today! I hadn't really thought of my car as a dream ride before, but now I'm thinking...
I nearly took a trip in the Citroën BX, just for old times' sake woohoo

Funny how time makes the ordinary remarkable, eh?

Well add one more to the hyperbole - stuck on the M3 outside lane in the dark and unable to engage neutral to be pushed off. This was after an initial incident that was misdiagnosed by Alpine as being a battery problem. Alpine customer care were not surprised by the failure- it was well known internally.
The new pump has been faultless since but Alpine could have saved me a lot of discomfort by sorting out the problem initially rather than pretending the problem did not exist.
Not arguing with you personally but don’t try to underplay Alpines lack of customer care.

Well after a few days short of 18 months my car is finally back home where it should be. Won’t go into the long and painful story again but suffice it to say that a combination of part supply issues and poor body shop communications haven’t helped. That said things improved significantly once Nicola got on the case bow

I wouldn't say it's an amazing read, ECOTY isn't what it was 25 years ago sadly but I did still enjoy it. My biggest criticism would be where they go and rocking up with a group of cars (& tyre choice !!) that let's face it are not really suited to the roads or conditions they're driving on. With one (actually there were a couple) exception... the A110 of course smile which we all know works well on gnarly narrow uk blacktop !!

Bit frustrating that Evo didn't reference damper settings on the R and how these can be tweaked for UK road use ?

Oh i see now you are using ECOTY to apply to Evo car of the year and not its usual European car of the year. As you were

Interesting explanation which mentions the A110 as a comparison.
