I think the Sports exhaust and engine modes are very well judged: it does make a good noise in Sport, but not raucously anti-social, and in standard mode the whole thing is remarkably civilised (not much less so than my Jag XK). I’m well impressed...

Speccing up a Pure to similar levels as the standard S does close that 10k gap to less than 5k, but yeah, they had to at least include the higher power tune. Although this hardly counts as data, it does seem like all the initial Atelier cars they've built are S models, so some people are buying them. My original plan was to go for a Pure with a few options, but once I’d spec’d it up the S was ‘only’ a couple of grand more so I went for that instead. Can’t say that I regret it

Same here. Having previous owned an Elise and Exige the A110 just felt more grown up for 95% of the fun of a Lotus. Also didn’t consider the Cayman, whilst a good car it felt too big, expensive and less involving.

Changing the subject for a minute it looks like the Renault Alpine owners club are organising a meet at Thruxton in September. Would be great to see some of the owners on here, assuming we’re out of lockdown by then of course

I don’t at present, but have been thinking about buying the Alpine one when it’s goes in for its service next month. Not sure if it’s any good but probably worth a punt at £16.

For me it was a few factors. I have owned a couple of Elise’s and an Exige and was looking for another sports car. I remember being at the Festival of Speed in 2012 when the Alpine A110-50 concept was premiered and I fell in love! So when searching for the new car I starting reading the A110 reviews, started this thread for other owners views and decided to take a test drive.

The test drive sold it for me, it was like driving a Lotus (Elise / Exige) but with the added benefit of modern engineering and up to date creature comforts (infotainment notwithstanding!) and very useable everyday whilst retaining that ‘special’ feeling every time you drive it.

Test drive one if you can, you’ll be smitten

I'd much rather there be a surplus of demand over supply to keep the residuals high. As detractors are so keen to point out that its a fancy Renault, the worst thing Alpine could do is saturate the market as it doesn't have the brand strength of Porsche to keep the punters, new or used, lining up so flooding the market would be a mad idea.

In my view, Alpine as a product is fabulous. Its market perhaps a bit more discerning and overall that market is smaller than for the more mainstream alternatives. There is no question of the car's brilliance - every review confirms that. And for the owners, Alpine would be well advised to manage the supply carefully to keep it a little exclusive/overpriced (however you look at it). It would certainly put me off if values fell off a cliff in the 2nd hand market - brilliant car or not. If that means it's hard to find bargains for those wanting to churn one, so be it.

I'm hoping to take delivery of mine in the next few weeks too. I've only driven one very briefly in the pouring rain. I planned on a longer test drive at some point but Covid kept stopping it from happening! I'm sure it will be fab!! Can't wait.

Congratulations to the new owners

Had to do 200 miles in mine today, foul weather and driving conditions, but such a joy to drive. Made the journey bearable. On the down side white is not the best colour for these conditions

Yes, great idea.
I think we should also establish a pecking order a la Porsche forums-
PE cars at the top as they are the limited editions
Then Pure cars as they are lightweight
Then the Legende
And finally the S as they are just big fancy-pants show offs with the top model.

I suppose it depends on your perspective if you have bought it use it as a daily and then move it on I would not bother.

Mine was bought to keep as a second car, cars like these will be gone forever soon so bagging one now and looking after is my plan.
I don't car if it's only an Alpine, it just happens to be exactly what I was wanting and in a couple of years they will stop making them and no one is going to invest in making similar cars going forward.

Interesting. Exactly my motivation for lurking as well. The test drive is done, configurator abused, the spec decided, order email to dealer is primed but I've just not quite pressed the button yet. The rational part of me says I have two cars (3 inc. the OH), neither get driven that much and am I collecting trinkets. The other bit is saying exactly as you say - no-one is going to make anything like this again so go for it, it's a keeper.

£190 cheaper than Alpine's offering and, with the Volvo clipping on and off, it looks as though volvo design the blades to be replaceable. Write up on the Renault Alpine Owners Club forum.

It is just a very different type of car to others in this class (in my view). As I said, it suits my style of car absolutely perfectly so I didn't hesitate once I test drove one, but if you want raw pace and noise - this car isn't it, if you want drama - this car isn't it, if you want to feel like you are inside a 60k car, this car definitely isn't it (despite some very nice design touches). A previous poster described it well - it is sort of a mid point between the real raw racers like an elise or a 4c , and the german 2 seaters. There isnt really another car out there like it.

Got to disagree with there I’m afraid. I have the S admittedly, and for raw pace and noise it’s pretty damn good and that’s coming from a previous owner of an Elise S Cup and an Exige 240pp. Trust me there’s plenty of drama if you want it, plus the ability to be docile when you want it to be too.

Changing subject, mine’s just had its first service with no surprises - also order the phone holder and some touch up paint (they now colours other than the Blue) whilst it was there.
