I thought it could be good to compile a thread recording if you've had wing corrosion, and if so what year and mileage did you experience this?

It seems that most affected models for wing corrosion are earlier cars. The question is whether this is simply because they are older with more miles, more stone chips etc in vulnerable areas, or is it due to production of the earlier models?

If it is the former, I wonder whether a form of PPF in these vulnerable is an easy solution.

I believe it has been updated with a plastic clip for joining the wing/bumper rather than metal. Hopefully replacing the clip will prevent it and save everyone the time.

Weather permitting I'll be doing some work and will check the car I'm driving this weekend.

I'm not sure, I have however checked the 73 plate built in March 23 which I'm driving and it looks like I have plastic screws with metal clips.

Good idea, what was the size of the nut/bolt you used? Did you replace all four corners?

Thanks Julian.

There has been cases of corrosion on front and rear arches, and there will be similar fixings for the front wing/bumper so seems worth doing.

It can't hurt to replace the metal clips, however I'm of the thought that it could also be caused by impact chips and dirt gathering between the wings and bumper, which would explain why the front of some cars has the same issue despite having no metal clips. I only wash my car once every couple of months, so try to remember give the bumper/wing joins a quick spray with the hose on full to blast away any dirt.

Anyway, good work. Now get out and drive it. wink

Alpine advise to replace the metal clip with a plastic one, part number 7703081199, one for each side on the rear.

You can easily check as the clips are towards the outer edges in the wheel arches. The plastic clips above are white, using a plastic bolt like Julian could be a good idea too.

It's worth replacing the metal with plastic, however I think dirt also becomes trapped between the bumper and wing and impact damage could be another cause. If I had the funds I would go for a full paint protection spray, as seems it's the only way to get protection around the edges which are most prone.

It doesn't put me off ownership at all but do feel quite helpless knowing it's inevitable. If your car is Alpine blue, Alpine put a tint of blue in the laquer, unfortunately I doubt most bodyshops are going to do the same, so the paintwork will never be quite as good. frown

Good idea on the flaps, although realistically it can happen anywhere there is an exposed edge - wings, front of the roof, doors, rear quarters, air intakes.

My car has only covered a few thousand miles and recently seeing a report of a MY22 at 12k over 24 months and already showing corrosion it's quite frustrating.

I also saw this picture below on facebook today, showing how useful PPF is for this particular issue, unless of course the PPF was installed after the damage was done.

Have you seen examples of it anywhere other than the arches yourself?
I've seen bubbling paint on the leading edge of a roof, a picture on Facebook I think it was. Strange as the roof is plastic not aluminium.

I recall someone mentioning the paint lifted around stone chips on their bumper so perhaps something similar.

On a related note, I'd highly recommend anyone with a carbon roof to get PPF as have seen a roof with stone chip damaged laquer at work recently and it's not pretty.
