Thanks Iain .. my accountant has just got back to me and it certainly does make sense.
For the right type of qualifying vehicle (new and unused) the company could get 100% tax relief against the entire cost of car in year one (doesn’t apply if leased/contract hire) and as an individual the benefit in kind rate is at 2% of list price for the next 3 years. So a £100k brand new electric vehicle could save £19k in corp tax and you’d be taxed personally on £2k
I guess there are no discounts to be had .. I'm going to try to see if I can get one in 3 to 6 months time.
Don't forget that when you sell it there will be tax on the "profit" i.e. the difference between the written down value and what you sell it for . I seriously can't get my head round why its best to tie up £100k of cash in a car .
But the BIK is exactly why I've had one . Once they crank it up , I'm out .

Just make sure you avoid potholes.
why is thathttps://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Actually hitting a pothole, which is far more likely, would probably be worse.
Hitting a pothole is usually better in a sports tuned suspension, because the high rebound damping and stiff springs both stop the wheel dropping far into the pothole. Hitting something where the wheel needs to deflect quickly upwards is more of a challenge.
I use a forum called Fullfatrr and there are more then a few posters on there who’ve driven or are driving one until the new RR is here. The Taycan CT seems to be the interim car of choice for most, including probably myself. They seem to be problematic.
That and a friend here in the NE who has one with nothing but electrical issues, particularly in cold weather.

What else are you going to do with that spare cash that would give you that level of benefit?I seriously can't get my head round why its best to tie up £100k of cash in a car .

I think the problem seems to be more due to the 21" wheels and low profile tyres with the Taycan.
I know Mercedes have had issues with 19" low profile wheels, tyres and potholes, with many damaged alloys.
Style over practicality seems to be the norm nowadays.

But maybe use it to buy stock, expand the business, coke

If you read the bit I linked too you will find his business partner had the issue with potholes with his Taycan as well.
I’ve read the whole thread! My point was there are probably 10,000 Taycans in the UK and if there was a major problem with potholes, we’d have seen more than just a few examples.
There have certainly been numerous stories about electrical gremlins etc.

My comment was more about leasing v purchase rather than the amount .

Why let the lease companies make the margin and also you can write it down in the first year and get the corp tax back. Depends if there are any dealer and manufacturer supported deals about on lease but doubt it.But maybe use it to buy stock, expand the business, coke

I'd be very surprised if you can get a brand new, unregistered one in that time frame. 1) the write down can be used against ex-demonstrators too. The car doesn't have to be brand nee/unused
2) You will have to pay CT on the proceeds when you sell it.... And with depreciation being glacial right now, it may be better to view it as deferring CT. Or at least a chunk of it.
Still cheap ownership of a car that's great in its own right.

Just placed an order on a 4S ST. Apparently the ST is being given priority over the CT and the GTS.
Once I have the build slot I can then spec it out.
Whatever you show interest in ordering has the priority. I was told the GTS had priority this year Once I have the build slot I can then spec it out.

Saloon GTS' seem to be being delivered quickly ish now.
I don't think there's much/any logic to it and think dealers are kept in the dark.
Get on the configurator. You might find not much difference between what you want in a 4S and a higher model.
Thanks all.
I think I will be happy with the 4S but I have a test drive booked in a GTS ST a week Saturday so will see what I think. I'm trying to resist going for the GTS/ Turbo
I had a go on the configurator and there seem to be so many options. Some of which are EV options which at the moment I don't understand.
I think I will get a fast charger put in at the office and home so I don't have to use third party sites .. or try not to anyway.
Its an interesting new World!

There's plenty of advice available about which options are worth having and which are not. Of course some of that is personal preference, but often there is method behind the suggestion! I would definitely advise to get a charger at the office OR at home - if you are forced to charge at third party sites, you'll waste a lot of time and it will make the car quite expensive to run. Much better if you can get some solar panels so that you can charge for free!

People inclined to buy a JLR product and being worried about the electrical system reliability of ANOther brand is funny That and a friend here in the NE who has one with nothing but electrical issues, particularly in cold weather.
Mate of mine has had an Evoque for 9mths and it's had faulty electrics for 2/3s of that and still isn't fixed ("shortage of parts").
Mind you, RR buyers are an odd bunch. He's just bought another (Though after some prompting did palm off the lemon to the new car's dealer to sort).

A 4S is a quick car...but it's dangerous trying a faster version first...
If I sell in 3 years’ time, the sale proceeds would be taxable as income in the company. If I p/x for another one, providing the rules are the same, I'd only pay/save tax on the difference between purchase/sale price. So will p/x when the time comes and hopefully the same incentives still exist then.
