So, the Dacia Sandero... the UK's cheapest new car @ £5995
Discussion
The Access is still listed for sale on the site.
My wife had a Clio 2.5 that underpins the sandero and I never got on with the driving position but maybe hat was me.
I totally see the appeal of the brand if you really, really want a new car but the access models are very basic for today's market. The other trim levels are better but, as already mentioned, that pushes the price up and the competition increases.
I saw an access on the way home this eve. Half expected it to have a yellow light on the roof as its the sort of thing you see at airports that get ragged by the workers moving from one area to the next.

Just looked on the website - it's annoying you can't add a/c, radio and central locking to the base car. I like the big black plastic bumpers and commercial grade steelies but the base trim is just too grim. The model with a/c is 7995, getting on for 10k as a diesel.
I would just shed it.

A friend has a Logan MCV 1.5DCi, and it's a pretty agreeable car to drive (I am used to late 1980s 1600s) but the seats could be better (my back is shot and the aches and pains are always pretty impressive after a few hours then for the next few days
- but the driving position itself is fine
).
66mpg on a run (from Huddersfield to the NEC c/o yours truly), in a car that can - and did - hold its own on the motorway, is not to be sniffed at...
But I would argue that MCV - "Maximum Capacity Vehicle" in longhand - is an appellation so crass that the channel tunnel should be filled in and GCSE Xenophobia be introduced in schools forthwith*
.
ps I jest with the last paragraph

Not the best example perhaps but here's what under 6k could get you with a warranty

I quite like the Sandero, seems to be a decent size for a small car. I don't really get the Sandero Stepway concept though. A couple of roofrails, and jacked up suspension which makes the wheels look too small. Also having STEPWAY emblazoned on both front doors looks a bit naff too. Although you see more of the Stepways about, so maybe I'm missing something.
Regarding buying basic spec and fitting a Halfords stereo. I'm sure I read somewhere that it wasn't that simple as it had to be a specific stereo that fitted the Dacia? I'll stand corrected if that isn't true.
Anyone know if the seats in the Sandero are the same as the Logan? Carbuyer review said the Logan seats were too soft and caused the reviewer backache after 2 hours drive. Haven't seen the Sandero review so I don't know if the same problem persists. That would put me off a bit, nothing worse than a car you can't get comfortable in.

Probably. A Logan is the estate version of the Sandero and Dacia can sell them cheap because they use standardised components across the range, that way they can get long production runs of bought-in components that are then cheaper. For example, all 4 side windows in the Sandero are exactly the same shape, so that the price of that component is then lower. I wouldn't be surprised if Dacia front seats are the same across the range, but the only way to be sure is to sit in one.OP, you've actually piqued my interest in taking a look at these. Only ever seen the Duster out and about. They really do make you think about what's actually needed in a car that you just pootle about in. They remind me of the poverty spec cars you get in Japan that tend to be used by contractors like yourself. Very cheap 'white goods' Corolla estates and the like - all the manufacturers do them.
Having said all that I wouldn't want one for a regular motorway stint myself!

I'd probably spend 5k on a reliable suzuki swift sport, at least then you could have some revvy fun and keep a grand back for upkeep. I reckon an access Sandero would be painfully slow. I totally see the appeal mind, but imagine having to live with it, I think it would get very boring very quickly and you'd wish you hadn't bothered
Having just come back from two weeks in Spain, the Dokker (based on the Kangoo) and Lodgy (I assume based on the Scenic) were the most common as there seems to be a trend for practicality over style over there.
The Duster looks good but a Sandero MCV is probably more practical if a lot less cool in reality.
