It wouldn't take much to write a set of rules for that, but there's no willingness. The horse has bolted anyway.
And it's cultural, someone in a "Mk2" swapping times with an R5 is seen as a hero, even if that "Mk2" is lighter, more powerful, has bespoke suspension, launch control, seq box with flat shift / paddle shift, 17" wheels, is perfectly weight balanced thanks to exotic materials and costs more than the R5.
Agree, again. But there is a willingness in some quarters, hence why the AWMMC have a class for it, with appropriate rules, and there is a FB page for the “classic rally car register”.And it's cultural, someone in a "Mk2" swapping times with an R5 is seen as a hero, even if that "Mk2" is lighter, more powerful, has bespoke suspension, launch control, seq box with flat shift / paddle shift, 17" wheels, is perfectly weight balanced thanks to exotic materials and costs more than the R5.
In the last 12 months I have seen at least 20 cars for sale that come in to this category, and that’s just me seeing those, I suspect there are plenty more available. Not just Escorts, but 205s, Novas, Astras, Golfs, Fiestas, FWD Escorts etc etc.
If something like the Roger Albert Clark club could be persuaded to take on the idea, it could take off.
“Classic” racing (as opposed to homologated “historic” racing) has been the biggest growth area in club racing in the last 25 years, so why could that not be replicated in club level rallying?

Spending all that money for what exactly...competing in a single venue event and beating heavier, less powerful cars. ArnageWRC said:

Fundamentally, there are too many rallies/championships and too much reliance on BDA Escorts, for BRC to prosper as a stand-alone R5/Rally2 series.
And the Escort is a major problem, whether in Historics, clubman/National events......None of the other countries have this obsession (and it is an obsession) with this car.
Let's hope Ireland finally get a WRC round (getting closer) and some of these closed road events build in stature , forest events are a dying breed nowadays for multiple reasons .

WRC live coverage has now moved across to the Discovery+ channel, part of the impending BT Sport demise and Eurosport merge. Now allows a full catch up service as well, so that’s an upgrade.

Seems to be carnage in Greece, Neuville doing well then hit a rock in the middle of the road.
Lots of carnage! It was a hole rather than a rock, it was there for others too but Neuville hit it on the brakes with the wheel turned which broke the suspension.

Did you enjoy it?
I did thanks, the solitary spectator point wasn't up to much. Facilities excellent, actual viewing not very good. Free and easy access to the service area was good too.But I went with an old mate I have only seen three or four times in 10 years and that was the best part
