Good luck and enjoy. Hope it goes well for you all.
What’s the spec of your car please?
What’s the spec of your car please?
Thank you!
It's got a 2.0 Vauxhall engine, about 245 bhp from memory, and a Quaiffe 6 speed sequential box. No paddle shift nor carbon fibre!
Let us know how it goes.

Yes but the shell is 42 years old, and “should” have an engine either designed in 1959 (Crossflow),1967 (BDA) or 1970 (Pinto), I think, and in comparison, the VX red top engine really is a “modern”, excellently designed (by Cosworth, ISTR) 16v lump and sequential boxes at club level are definitely a 21st century development.
Note my use of a winky smiley You might recall that I have commented on your posts here and on BRF about championships for period mod cars in a generally positive manner. I am on your side broadly. I don't agree with 'banning things' as a general rule but can see that if cars go outside of a certain period of modification then they should lose some of the benefits of that period as well (lower weight limit based on the theoretical age of the car, not the age of most of the bits for example)
The public at large have a very different view to rally fans of 'modern' anyway. A Subaru Impreza would be seen as a old car now
"Cat amongst the wood pigeons" time, a C20XE is just an updated BDA really!!!!!
Yes "modern-ish" spec, I wound say - the engine in truth is about 12 years old and the gearbox slightly less. Apart from those, the car has been built by the team on a very much Clubmans basis.
The reality is that we would love a full spec GP4 Escort RS with a BDG, but can't afford it. This one started with initial build at £17k back in 2004 and has been gradually developed since.
We could of course afford a lower spec XFlow with a Tran X box but we do like to be quick and reliable
The beauty of rallying is that there is room for everyone.

Agree with that, too, except that I don’t see the point of you and I being in the same class (my OEM Pinto and h-pattern ‘box can’t compete) and yet we would be in the same class in the vast majority, if not all, rallies. So whilst there is room for everyone, there is not similar treatment for all.The reality is that we would love a full spec GP4 Escort RS with a BDG, but can't afford it. I would suggest that there should be a separate class structure for “modern spec” cars, “proper” historic cars and what I would call “club classic”cars.

Just woken up having got to bed at 02:45. Now getting ready to go out again.
I was about 3.30 when we eventually got back to the cottage as we got stuck waiting for the Subaru and Evo getting recovered off the beach Tuath. On the plus side the cars run straight past the house today.andy97 said:

Yes, and it boggles the mind that there isn't one. Why not? But then I remember, it's UK rallying, and lots of things don't make sense. For those following the Mull Rally (and other events) I'd recommend the Sport Traxx app; it has live tracking, stage time and info on other events as well.
Today as yesterday we have had a lot of spectators out on the stages. Not a "pen' in site.
All spectators we have spoken to are really enjoying the rally, despite the weather. Was speaking to a lady in her 70's that live on the island and can remember seeing the first rally as a teenager.

More importantly than the Mull or WRC stuff, I had an enjoyable run out in my “dinosaur spec” Escort at 3 Sisters kart track on Sunday, in the Adgespeed rally, a round of the AWMMC Heart of England rally championship, amongst others.
It was great how much interest there was in a narrow bodied, Pinto powered, h-pattern ‘box equipped car?
“Not proper rallying” I hear. I don’t care it was a well organised and fun club level event (& even then it had a couple of R5s and a 6R4 entered!) with a good paddock atmosphere.

It's things like this that the sport needs to keep the grass roots elements going. Shame we're losing more and more venues as each year passes.
Haven't had the any luck in my Punto so brining out my fathers mini for the first time in two years. I rebuilt the body over the first 5 months of the year, got the engine and box rebuilt and hopefully should go like stink!! It's a 1293 MED head, race cam, straight cut short ratio box on 10 inch avons. Original 1972 car, my fathers first car which he then became a rally car at the time
The above picture was from the Saint Goueno Masters Hillclimb in France back in May

Just back in at 04:00. Another Mull done and already looking to next year's event.
You’re in early Just dropped all the paperwork at Rally HQ and now enjoying a dram at the pier.
Nice finish Duncan - well done!!
And thanks to all the volunteers who worked through the rain. It was a bit sh*t out there today.
What an incredible rally, the weather conditions on the last stage alone made it feel like the challenge of a lifetime.
After some technical drama with a snapped clutch cable, we made it to the finish in 22nd place. That's a good way to finally end my competitive days on Mull (with a lot of aches and pains).
Photos thanks to James Officer and John Lindsay.

Some amazing footage from Rallye Legend this weekend, a proper event run by people who understand what rallying means to fans. As much as anything else, a show.
There is lots of time for proper rallying, I do wish someone would do an event like this here, but it will never happen for many reasons, but it is a fabulous event.
