Thanks . All kicking off now for the modified lads , 6 months to meet Cat 2 regs or they’re outlawed. Why ? Perfectly good club cars

But it has been known about for several months now. ( As half the competitors don't seem to read final instructions I am not surprised they have only just got round to knowing this)
If you read all the regulation change no cars are being outlawed

Don't forget none of these changes come about without consultation with the relevant committees.

Some really cool stuff this weekend, a fairly Condroz for a change, some great footage online and fair ply to the Lausitz organizers in Germany I counted about 15 countries on the entry list, a real cross Europe event, not a great venue but again some proper stuff and Mikkelsen winning in the new Fabia R5 which looks and sounds a weapon.

Had a really enjoyable day yesterday on the Salford Van Hire Neil Howard Stages with Sophie Landen in the silly seat.
We finished 74th out of 83 finishers (seeded 85 and c100 starters) and 26th in class C (1600-2000cc) out of 30 finishers in very tricky conditions (rain, gravel, water splash, mud, fog, dark) - the sort of conditions I crashed the Escort in last December at Donington Park, worse than Donington probably - with no real “moments”!
I was pretty pleased overall!
I may have been in a class with >30 starters in it, but that was all irrelevant really as there was only one other car that I could tell (might have been a couple of Pug 205s or Novas, I suppose) that was of a similar spec/ philosophy to mine in being an pre 90’s OEM engined car with a H-pattern ‘box and therefore what I have nick named a ”club classic” type car, and I finished ahead of them so to my mind I “won” my class (of two) Lol!

I have had a look at a few in cars as well, one front runner and another from a chap that I sold a gearbox to a few years ago that popped up on my facebook feed.

I stated earlier in the thread that these types of events weren't for me as a competitor, based on Oulton I got that wrong. Looks good and a very challenging stage really with the gravel sections and constant elevation changes. Also very narrow, so extra tricky in the wet.

Definitely not an event for a circuit racer with an extra seat, too bumpy and the gearing would be all wrong. The Fiesta Rally2 I saw was barely making 100mph

I think Oulton is perhaps the best of these events, Snetterton the worst, literally all circuit with a few very smooth access roads and a tiny bumpy bit, Cadwell is OK, lovely location, Doington is up and down sometimes all circuit, sometimes they do some other interesting bits. Brands also fairly similar, but all within the Indy layout for noise reasons.

I am very inexperienced in rallying, this was only my 7th event, but it was definitely challenging and even relatively experienced competitors thought so. The changeable weather conditions made It difficult (inc fog in the dark) and there were some tight and very slippery sections, as well as some fast “circuit” type corners, plus the “barrel chicanes” to negotiate.
I think 83 people finished out of c100 starters and that was an unusually high number of finishers. Last year I think I came 66th out out 67 finishers so it can be tough on cars.
My car is set up for bumpy tarmac really (it came from Ireland) and I would expect all the other cars were set up for the smooth tarmac sections so I think a circuit car could do ok there. Some of Paul Sheard’s hire MX5s are in basically standard road suspension and do well.
I do think it is a very good event and the place was rammed with spectators (lots with children in tow). Of course the end of day fireworks helped but I doubt anyone went just for the fireworks given the entrance fee. There were so many spectators there it took me 3/4 of an hour to do 1 mile to get out of the venue.
I have only done Donington, Oulton, Snetterton and 3 Sisters events and they do all have a different character. Last year Donington had probably longer and quicker gravel sections than Oulton, plus the off circuit tarmac stuff where the “Sunday May” used to be (I crashed, see below!) whilst Snetterton has lots more very technical and very tight and twisty sections in addition to the on circuit stuff plus a couple of long(ish) (by circuit rally standards) very slippery gravel sections. I don’t agree it’s the worst, just slightly and surprisingly different to the others.

Donington last year, it’s easy this circuit rallying lark, isn’t it:

I refreshed the page a couple of times and it worked, rained a bit then? Was that Saturday, we didn’t have anything more than drizzle at Prescott I was fully prepared for a soaking that never came.

If you’ve got online file storage then you could link to a vid rather than using YouTube or the like. Remember when you used to watch rallying and the in car night shots were really bad, turns out I can do that. https://oneball.smugmug.com/Cars/Rallye-Prescott-2...

It was mostly just very showery but started to be less wet (!) in the afternoon so I did stage 5 on soft compound semi slicks, then there was the deluge as we sat in the start queue before stage 6 - concentrated the mind!

Does anyone know about the event announced at Croft?

https://www.croftcircuit.co.uk/racing/winter-stage...

I have a season pass so am going to down, will be the last racing I see this year, never actually been to a rally before.

Should be good and needs the support to get Croft back on the Rally Calendar after a recent ban.
