Jason you really do talk a load of ass water. Get yourself down Eastnor and see what a Defender, Discovery, Range Rover or even a Disco Sport are capable of. They have so much more off road ability than almost any other car. That is fact. The Toyotas are basic and agricultural at best so have little to go wrong which is ideal in the outback. They are barely any more sophisticated than my 1967 Vitesse. If you want a dull old fashioned crap car by the Toyota.
I don’t dislike the Ineos and it would probably have been beneficial if they had just purchased the design rights off JLR for what is clearly a modern interpretation of their old design. I wish them well but time will tell.
Thanks for the invite. Also top use of 'ass water'.I don’t dislike the Ineos and it would probably have been beneficial if they had just purchased the design rights off JLR for what is clearly a modern interpretation of their old design. I wish them well but time will tell.

offroad capability is pretty irrelevent in this country when you consider that this
is the sort of thing an old, stock, "soft roader" can do. Do you really need more than a couple of locking diffs?
@ 15:20 that sounded remarkably like the sound that i used to get when bending the pin in a 2 pin diff on my landy - would live a little while longer, then usually exit the diff casing on the next red-mist moment leaving me with a no-pin diff and a tow home.is the sort of thing an old, stock, "soft roader" can do. I've always liked the old shape Cayenne S. everything about them was proven before Porsche put a sticker and trim level on top. Just really solid cars that are a great drive.
What the video also highlights is that for the non commercial market an off-roader is a leisure and lifestyle choice. There's no essential need underpinning demand. Any essential need can be fulfilled by far cheaper solutions and usually has to be due to that need also being linked to low purchasing power or zero desire to buy new or premium.
Coming in at £60k puts such a vehicle at a real disadvantage. The real volume exists at much, much lower prices, up at this level the vast majority of buyers want to favour road use and comfort and you can see the section that desires to trade road use, safety and comfort for the rugged, offroad image is pretty small.
I hope they have focussed on commercial sales as a priority and have sown up some good deals as I do think that's going to be the most viable path for this type of vehicle to make its way into the retail leisure market.

Not quite making money yet, but this is what you would expect from the Guardian...

As a buyer in this sector I can't get past what the Rivian looks like. I'm not interested in having something that ugly in my life.
I feel the same about the new Defender, the styling is too modern for me. Even though the vehicle is clearly capable and popular, I'm just not interested.
So it's just me and Jim
Generally agree, but if Musk gets pulls his finger out I'll take a Cybertruck in an instant. Strange eh, but the F-117 was an icon of my childhood.I feel the same about the new Defender, the styling is too modern for me. Saw one earlier today at Bicester Scramble. It looked quite good in metallic blue.
I overheard someone asking the rep ‘is this built in Britain?’
‘Errrr no’ came a somewhat sheepish reply.
Did you get a picture of the a Grenadier that you could post? I overheard someone asking the rep ‘is this built in Britain?’

(apologies, the low sun made for some pretty poor photos today)

Is there not quite a bit of driver skill allowing that to be achieved?is the sort of thing an old, stock, "soft roader" can do. Do you really need more than a couple of locking diffs?
Meaning much more capable off-roaders are able to flatter the vast majority of, talentless, drivers with clever engineering, as in the way launch control does for performance cars.

Most people think the little "TC" light on the dash stands for "Traction Control"... Meaning much more capable off-roaders are able to flatter the vast majority of, talentless, drivers with clever engineering, as in the way launch control does for performance cars.
...It's actually "Talent Control" coz when you run out of driving 'talent', the car has to take 'control'.
