Surely an up to date bore scope report should have been included as part of the sale. A lot can happen in 5k of driving... Nobody would buy a 3.8 engine car from a dealer without a inspection so why would you do it at an auction?
Baffles me.
Hi Psilonaught, you're spot on that bore health is a top priority for these engines. With 3 days left to run, booking a formal independent inspection might be tight, which is why the seller included the previous clean scope report and detailed the low-temp thermostat fix for maximum transparency.Baffles me.
The beauty of the auction format is that it allows bidders to price in their own risk assessment based on the extensive specialist history provided. The seller is highly responsive and open to last-minute viewings or direct questions from serious bidders looking to cross their T's before the clock runs out.
Some of the controls are a little sticky, but it's not so bad as to have caused me an issue. I know it's a known issue, not only on 997's but pretty much any car or any other item of the era with soft touch knobs. It's easily and cheaply addressed, as I understand it, if you want put some new ones on or treat with isopropyl alcohol after first removing them.
I should add, checking the car today, the heating controls aren't suffering from the sticky issue and the main on off button of the radio is pretty good. Its just he volume know which is a bit tacky really, but as mentioned before easily and cheaply addressed.
