The Kit Car Design Thread
Discussion

My inspirations are from two sources, the 70's and up Porsche racing prototypes (especially the 911 GT1-98) and secondly a bit of "what-if" alternative history, ie: what if Group B hadn't been cancelled, what would a Porsche Group B or the follow-on Group S mid-engine have been like? or, what if Targa Florio hadn't ended, what would a Targa GT1-98 have been ?
I very much admire your re-interpretation of the Speedster on your website. It fits very much in the spirit of where I am heading !!
I admire the work replica builders put into their projects, likewise kit builders, I'm just following my desires.
Again, thanks for your comments...

Trevor,
If you need styling help on your new project, or are interested in the speedster design, let me know.
The speedster is based on the old Vw shortened chassis, the one used for any replica speedster.
I like your thinking on a Porsche GT1 for a modern Targa Florio...........
get in touch with me by mail if you need any help

Italo....
thanks for your offer ! I am sure I'll be in contact.
In my "alt-history" version of a modern Targa Florio, the 911 GT1-98 would have a bit shorter wheelbase in order to be a bit more agile, shorter front and read overhang for better approach angles and would have to have more ground clearance as it would need to deal with the variations of real, public roads. The very same reasons Porsche campaigned the 908's at Targa instead of the powerful 917.
BTW, I once I have build it and sorted the handling out, I hope to enter it in at least two tarmac events, Targa Newfoundland (www.targanewfoundland.com) and the Knox Hill Climb (www.knoxmtnhillclimb.ca ). I am considering painting it in the Gulf colours !!
Anyway, enough rambling....

I still hope that you will find time to rebody the Aeon GT3, verdict was to square ...
I realy like your designs and sent emails to a kitcar manufacturer who said that they where designing a "modern" 7.
but no reply ....

Quite a few did ahow some interest, but nothing yet, maybe in 2007?.............in reference to the Aeon GT3, are you thinking of buying it ? , but I'll get on with it and see what I can do ...
Yes I'am going to buy one .... still working on the garage (2 car with heated floor :-) ) almost done.
I like the 3 seats and midengine (going to use a volvo 5 cyl) we have rules for bhp/ton in sweden...
but the design, not the worst i think but look at lotus sport :-) about the same size and config.

I'll work on a few rough sketches, and then post them on a new thread for you.
Thought I would resurect this old thread to add some of my recent design work. Whether it qualifies as a kit car or not is debateable, I have designed it from scratch using Solidworks, and rendered the images using the Photoworks add in within the software.
The car is intended as a single seat, closed canopy track / race car, with a tubular steel spaceframe chassis, GRP bodyshell, double unequal length, unparallel wishbones all round, using the Hartley Enterprises Hyabusa 2.8 V8 (400bhp) and a Hewland FTR 6 speed sequential gearbox.
There is still a lot to do to this, I have only recently aquired the CAD data for the engine and gearbox and I am beginning to incorporate these nto the chassis. As you can see I have linked up the rear suspension and created a design for the exhausts to date.I would like to specialise this to be competitive in hillclimb racing, so if anyone has any comments on that I would like to hear them.
Please let me know what you think!

I'm not too sure what you mean by that? Just had a look at the car in your profile, looks very good! I want to try something like that for my next project. what did you design it in? I'm just over the water from you on the Isle of Wight, if your design progresses into a prototype development stage, I may just have to come over and stick my nose in!

LOL nothing meant by it at all, other than if I slated yours I'd be slating mine Designed in Solidworks, and yes it will be progressing into prototype - was supposed to have started over a year ago but massive and continuing hold ups on the workshop and my house extension have put it on the back burner at the moment
Once I start though, you'd be more than welcome - in fact I might just have to contact you further about the process anyway, as my mastering of Solidworks is... ermm.... very limited to say the least (started learning on a mates PC purely for this project)

I would be more than happy to lend a hand, the more I can get involved with projects like this the better!Do you have a thread/webspace for your project?

That's pretty impressive - and seems a little ambitious!
Is this just an exercise, or are you looking to build it?
(Reminds me that I must put my Aeon GT3 concept design up as well!)
It started out as a design exercise for a module of my Motorsport Engineering course, but has progressed on since as a personal hobby. I would eventually like to build it as a hillclimb racer, whether that actually happens or not is a different matter! Is this just an exercise, or are you looking to build it?

Lovely job
No webspace or owt yet - got the domain ready to go but as the computer it's being designed on is currently unavailable to me (and I'm a bit snowed under with the house) it's sat just behind the design project itself on the backburners!
ETA feel free to email me through my profile - just tried yours but it doesn't work.
