I know a certain well respected peddler of Libras who reckons there's a good case for the smaller K series engines, 'cause they come with a lighter gearbox, and make the car more nimble.

The 1400 Libra /Spyder is no slouch, don't get fixated on big engines in light cars.

Hey Bertram! Good to hear from you again. How has that gone? Is it all done now? How is it?
Hi there,

Yes, it's all done now, on the road since halfway February this year. The car has been great so far. I have had a problem with the dumpvalve staying open under (full) acceleration which was caused by an error in the Audi workshop manual. Once I connected the dump valve control system up correctly I really have to have both hands on the steering wheel whilst flooring it ;-)
Besides that I had one small problem with the gearchange. I had to extend the gear change cables a little and I made a wrong decision by using a piece of threaded rod for that. After replacing the extender by a purpose made piece it has been fine.
I did take the car to Stoneleigh in May of this year (1000 miles round trip), and I took it to the alpes this summer.
It is now in my garage since it did not return from the alpes undamaged. Nothing severe, but I do need a new clamshell. Bit of a bummer, I would have loved to drive it a bit more this summer...

Please check my website (www.gtmlibra.nl) for pictures and a short movie (24th of February).

it will be better if i stick with the 1.8. spin
No hope of insuring it though, the only company who insure kit cars for people under 21/25 said that i would need 2 years min no claims for them to quote me and thats for a standard 1800.

Is yours going to have a silly mahoooooooosive ironing board on the back like the Libra in your profile?
I swear i recognise it from somewherehehe

argh great

ive got the small engine (1.4 16vavle) with the heavy gear box from a 1.8 (pg1 ?)

the insurance is reasonable on my 1.4 at about £500 a year for me (im 19)

Doug; does your car go well? - I'm sure it isn't slow.

and "insurance is reasonable on my 1.4 at about £500 a year for me (im 19)"
is a serious understatement. At 19 £500 a year is CHEAP.

yeah but i don't want to blagwink

it was the reason i got a gtm in the first place, i could get the rossa (1275cc) for about £500 when i was 18 and everything else was way over £1000

just out of interest, what do the older/more expereinced gtm owners pay for insurance?

Was around £700 for me on a 1400 K3 at 17 and went down about £100 after a years no claims. And to be honest it was definately the quickest/most fun car i could insure at that age (even better once i sorted the fueling problem)
Now its time to save for a fun car again and its between a Libra or a seven copy, although we have enough problems with one Libra on the drive let alone anotherlaugh

Seriously, where can I get my wheels painted that colour? That colour would be awesome for my track rims against my black car? Does anyone know who could do this in the South East/ London?

ANY bodyshop. Give them your wheels and tell them the colour.

Wicked wheels in Slyfield Ind estate, Guildford. Get alot of wheels done there for work and they come back better then from the factory.

Cheers guys... I did some work experience at Dennis SV about 15 years ago, LOL, so I know exactly where the Slyfield industrial estate is! Will talk to my local bodyshop as well, as it is about 30 miles closer than Woking! Gorgeous!
