were those bushes pre-fitted when the shock arrived or did they came in a bag?
why i ask this:
sometimes the sleeve supplied is not manufacured in the correct length, referring to the width of the eylet inside the shock or a inside a wishbone.
means, once the 2 halfs of the bush have been fitted to the eyelet, the sleeve is than too short, even it looked to be ok pre-fitment.
and in most cases its necessary to bent-open the chassisbrackets b4 installing any newcomponents.
Pre fitted apart from the new ones which were loose. It doesn’t make much difference as the material is at least hard enough to tell you if it’s not inserted enough as it wouldn’t fit between the brackets. why i ask this:

And as for bending the brackets - not too sure where to go with that one apart from:
DO NOT BEND THE BRACKETS IF IT CANT SNUG FIT BETWEEN SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG !!

One Mistake often made
Tightening up bolts on running gear while in the air and off the ground.
Both shocks and wish bones should be done under load on the ground with the full weight of the car.
If tightened before they will be under greater compression and very possible another cause of failure
I have to ask - what does the photo show? Tightening up bolts on running gear while in the air and off the ground.

AVO have recognised there is an issue and are actively looking at a bonded alternative. Hopefully it’ll be a retro fit press in bush.
I must say they can’t be faulted for their customer service and taking the issue seriously. Really excellent.
In the meantime anyone about to fit a set of shocks is best leaving it for a couple of months awaiting the upgraded bush.

^ Of course, but obviously the more nudges they get the better.
The most important thing is they recognise there is an issue with bush failure. As I’ve said previously many people will be unaware the bushes have got play or gone oval unless they’ve stripped them down as it’s not necessarily visible.

I believe that Adrian Venn supplies/stocks the correctly specified Nitrons.
By the way, have you thought of casting your own urethane bushings?
Thought about having something a bit harder turned up, however AVO have now supplied a set of their 3 piece retro job and in fact the outer is hardened steel and the inner a decent bonded bush so it may well be effective. I havent tried the outer for size yet so just hope its a tight fit.By the way, have you thought of casting your own urethane bushings?

Interesting idea though, not tried casting urethane so probably not a good idea using bushes as the learning curve !

I didn't think Adrian@ ever supplied Nitrons for Vixens but hopefully he'll let us know for sure.
I'd be interested to get feedback from anyone running the upgraded AVO bushes as I'm planning to get mine done next month.

I’ll let you know if I do mine, but I fitted the first set of like for like replacements I got from AVO and can’t summon the desire to go through it again despite knowing I’m on a path to doom. Gates barricade hoses are the next job. I'd be interested to get feedback from anyone running the upgraded AVO bushes as I'm planning to get mine done next month.

Two weeks ago I took the shocks off of the Vixen to find the condition of some bushes was worse than I had thought. The fronts being pretty shocking (sorry that's a really bad pun). The rears weren't so bad, but I guess the stresses at the rear are less with loads being spread across 4 shocks. Bear in mind these shocks have been on the car for over 5 years.
I've now had the shocks back from AVO having been fully rebuilt. For the relatively small cost of having them rebuilt AVO also supplied and fitted the new style bushes at no additional cost.

I have to say they have been really good. Very fair and very easy to work with. Hopefully the new bushes are a better design/material and will not collapse.

AVO do seem in the ball with it but then again it seems there’s a bit of history for them to be catching up on. Be interesting to know how much harder these are in-use!
