Vixen- Factory engine/competition options?
Discussion
I am researching the viability of racing a Vixen here in France (non FIA).
Local technical regulations state that period engine modifications and or competition options offered by the manufacturer are permitted.
I was wondering if TVR ever offered any such engine options or upgraded parts and if so does any documented proof exist i.e. sales brochures etc?

The factory produced a couple of Vixens with Lotus Twin-cam engines. Also I believe there is a Vixen in Australia that was dealer fitted from new with a super charger. I think this was a dealer fit option offered by the factory at some stage. I'm sure other more 'knowledgables' will either contradict this or fill in the gaps.
Steve, a while back I bought (and since sold) a Vixen with a twin cam in it and Brian the owner (who was quite friendly with Stan in spares, he was also owner the ex PW turbo and a Grantura 2A at the time, along with being a priest, so I believe him!) even with the help of his his leader (sic) he could not prove that the factory ever put a twin cam in a TVR of that era.

In the November 1970 issue of Customer Car magazine, they test drove a factory owned Vixen with a Twin Cam fitted. They state this was the development car for a planned BDA engined S3. Whether it was ever sold with that engine fitted ..... well that's another question!Adrian@

From memory of speaking to Brian, that was a customer car that the factory got 'attached' to (I let the car go because I could not prove that the car was a production item) and I tried my hardest to align it with the factory, without any luck, other wise I would still be the owner. I know Brian was able buy a replacement exhaust manifold via Stan in spares (as I saw/had the hand written factory invoice), but Stan was always able to supply the part required when it was needed.

If you read the info on this car then this well may have been originally fitted with a twin cam engine from new. It would be nice to know if the owner actually found this out from the DVLA. It is a very early S2 Vixen.

What numbers sprint and super sprint Steve...I don't want to reading them all...LOL

They were not in "Sprint" or "Super Sprint". They were called Sprint and Supersprint depending on state of tune. Sprint had modded cam , head and few other bits. Super Sprint had the above but with twin 40 DCOEs and some othe minor mods. Adrian@
