steering column bush
Discussion
On my 1976 3000M i have noticed a lot of play in the Top Steering Column Bush.
The Steering Column seems "Triumph" like on my Lotus Elan Sprint so i think i can replace the Top Column Bush from usual sources like "Rimmer Bros".
Can i replace the Bush by removing Steering Wheel and extracting Bush from the Top.
Thanks in advance
Alan

I found it easiest to cut the little lugs off with a craft knife through the holes in the side of the column surround then tap the bushes out with a piece of wood. getting them back in takes a bit of giggling. I put some fairy liquid on mine to help them slip down the column surround

If you want to get the old bush out (rather than Tim's easy fix) it's a column strip down job, and getting those uprated ones in is "good fun"![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
They are well worth fitting though as the rubber ones dont last long.![](https://thumbsnap.com/sc/YTYBMkRn.jpg)

I wouldn't use washing up liquid as a lube near metal, as it contain masses of salt. Silicone grease is your best friend.Go for the poly bushes. The rubber bushes I fitted were rubbish and only lasted a couple of years. I didn't even bother to remove them, just drove in the new poly bush from either end of the column to displace them so now have a four bush set up! I wouldn't even try this without removing the column which isn't a difficult job. I fitted mine in an afternoon. Made a big difference.
