steering column bush

On my 1976 3000M i have noticed a lot of play in the Top Steering Column Bush.
The Steering Column seems "Triumph" like on my Lotus Elan Sprint so i think i can replace the Top Column Bush from usual sources like "Rimmer Bros".
Can i replace the Bush by removing Steering Wheel and extracting Bush from the Top.

Thanks Boys,
i like the idea to push the old Bush further down the Column and put the new one in it's place. The Column Tube being in alloy can be damaged very easily.
